I have a pair of firemouths that I am hoping to breed eventually. Anyways the female of the pair dug what appears to be a small but deep pit in the gravel under a rock formation in the tank. I am pretty sure this is normal behavior as it is for most chichlids. Should I leave them be?

also I may be getting a 55 gallon. Not positive though. I would be transferring the pair to the 55 gallon. I know if they breed they would be extremely aggressive, but suppose they dont, what other stock would be recommended with the firemouths. Thanks. -tl

well, your right....the digging pits in the gravel is normal for msot cichlids.....sometimes it can even be the beginning of breeding behavior.
