Fish Rot and Ick

Hi,
I had a massive 400G tank dedicated for my severums since an year and a half with 10 fishes, I had gigantic 12" - 13" Severums of various shades of Gold and green.
Until recently i decided to add 2 female's.
Unfortunately i did not quarentine the fish while adding to the tank.

Note sure if this has caused Fish Rot and Ick, I have lost 7 fishes now

This is the only change to my setup. Ammonia and nitrates are in the tolerable zone.

I treated them with Flagyl and tetracyclin but i am loosing fishes rapidly. lost them in a matter of 4 days.

So can any one help me how can i get rid of this disease and not loose my fish.

Also my gaint tank seems to be dull now with all those fishes gone, Can any one tell me if i can add new fish, If so when, and what should i do before adding the fish so that i do not loose more.

 

catch each fish and put them in seperate smaller tanks.. figure its alot easier, more effective and cheaper to treat 10 gallons of water then 400 right? so ide reccamend catching each fish and keeping them in one tank thats alot smaller or each in a small tank and treat the small tanks.. also do a 100% water change in the 400 and clean the gravle and all the ordaments and replace the filter media!!

 

But, I have 5 fishes remaning, And treating them in 5 tanks is a lot of work, Still worth a try, I will try that.

But do you have any recommendations for treating them ( medicines).

Also is there a method to re-use the media and gravel and ordaments , cause a setup for 400G costs dearly by changing all these in one shot.

What are your actual readings for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte?

my existing aqua readings are as follows
Nitrate is 10 mg/L,
Ammonia (NH3) reading is is 1.0 ppm 1mg/L.

And water is crystal clear now.

But earlier my ammonia reading was close to 3.0ppm and by doing 10-30% water change daily i brought it down to the existing readings.

Unfortunately i lost 2 more fish yesterday and i am planning to move 2 small fishes out of this tank.

but can you still let me know what medications can be done to the sick fishes.

And how should i go about adding new fishes to the tank which i have decided to the massive tank 400G tank.

I am planning to go for a planted tank with massive numbers of small fishes suh as neon and cardinal tetra's and angels.
But i would like to here from others before taking this decision.

Any other suggesions are also welcome

 

That would be the problem. Keep doing those water changes and try to get the ammonia level down to 0.

For treatment, you can try an antibiotic such as Maracyn 2 for the fin rot. For the ich, try some aquarium salt (1 tbsp/5 gallons) and slowly raise the temperature to around 84* (you should add an air stone if you don't have one already).

Correct me if i am wrong, These parameters seem to be fine for severums, But what do you recommend for severums on these readings.

Any how, I have now moved the remaining severums to smaller tanks and have started treating them.

My LFS asked me to clean the tank thoroughly with aquarium salt, And i have now converted the tank to a planted tank after quarentining it and adding cycle which cycles the tank in quick time, And have introduced close to 50 neon tetra's. 50 Serpe tetra's, 20 Lemon tetra's and a 10 bottom feeders today morning.

Not sure what bottom feerers are but LFS told me that they go along with tetra's well, Will try to post pictures by tomorrow.

But can any one tell me what more can i add with them.

I have a Dolphin Canister filter C-1800 with a mechanism to reduce the pressure of water by converting the outlets and inlets to mutliple places.

2, 40 Watt thermostat heaters and the aquarium is close to window so has adequate amount of lighting.

So can any one suggest if i require to do more on the arrangements.

 

you must have the cholren water in there u need water treat ment *****!!!! also ink protection!!!!!!!!!!!!! go buy them at petsmart or wal-mart the best!!!!!!!!

hey RAGHU chlorine water matter to yur fish.. chlorine kills yur fishes and u need the water protection here check this link out and look at the chlorine protection... http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_ ... 0480723174 do u see the STRESS CAot u , you need that... add every 5mL for a 10gallon it depends how much gallon is yur tank.. ALSO HERE IS A ICK PROTECTION U NEED TO GET FOR YUR TANK.. IT IS BEST FOR U TO GET IT NOW, LATER IS NO GOOD..
IF U HAVE THOSE MORE CHANCES YUR FISHES SURVISE and lives longer.. CAUSE I KNOW I HAVE ICK PROTECTION AND CHLORINE PROTECTION EVERY TIME time when i clean my tank i always put in the tank no matter wat if they don't have ick i still do but only when i clean my tank so yeh get them!!!

 

its not a good idea putting in ich medication everytime you change the tank water, it is pointless......it also has the possibility of getting your fish sick if the medicine is used that often.

 

well mabe once in a while so that the fish can stay healthy.. and don't have ick.. ick looks like tiny white dots looks like surgar dots u know wat i mean..

 

yea i do know what you mena, but you should only use it when you see ich, or if you are introducing new fish. its like this.....lets say u have strep throat, so u get meidcation for that....you ue it and after a few days your strep throat is gone. that doesnt mean you should keeping using the medication to keep the strep throat away, in the long run you are jsut harming yourself.

 

While some medications list directions on how to use the medication as a prophalaxis (usually 1/2 dosage strength) during water changes, I have been against it due to the possibility of developing resistant strains of bacteria.
