Freckles 'Assist" with Dukes Ear Treatments

Duke is being a very good patient enduring the daily antibiotics, ear cleaning, drops and face sprays. The face spray must sting a bit because he heads the other way when he sees me pick up that applicator.
Last night I had just settled down on the floor with Duke on his side while I massaged his neck to get him to relax. I had by my side the bottle of ear wash, the ear drops, the face spray, and a handful of cotton balls. I squirted in the ear wash solution and as I reached for a cotton ball Freckles swooped by and grabbed the whole wad of cotton in his mouth. I didn't want to let Duke up because he would think the treatment was over but I also knew that Freckles usually enjoys a game of chase when he knows he has something in his mouth that I want. This time I guess he could tell I was really mad because when I hollered at him he trotted back and spit out the whole bunch. I managed to find two or three "dry" ones and completed Dukes treatment.
That hot spot on the side of his face is now just one huge scab about an inch and a half in diameter. So far he has not scratched at it which would only delay the healing. His ear seems to be clearing up also as I cleaned out very little debris last night.
To add insult to injury I took them to the dog park yeasterday but would not allow Duke to swim. Keeping a Lab away from water is no easy task but every time he would start to head toward the pond I would call him back and he would reluctantly obey.
I promissed him that if his face was healed by next weekend he could swim.
