The other day I was off work and decided to go check out this litter of American Bulldog puppies that was the next town over. I've been keeping in touch w/ this breeder for a while (even before I got my male). So as I was leaving this middle aged couple and their daughter shows up at the guys house scheduled to see the pups. As the owner went into the house i had a small chit chat with the lady.

Me: So what made you decide on this breed?

Lady: Oh we've had boxers for a long time now and.... her husband interupts quite rudely and snaps "RESEARCH!!!!"

That kinda caught me off guard but i brushed it off now thinking ok these people might know something.

    Lady: What about you?

Me: Well I currently have a 10 mo. old male. I've been researching the breed for almost 2 years now. And in the past I've had raised primarly pit bulls and want to try something new. My brother in law breeds apbt's so i'm just getting away from that.

Lady: Oh really. How do these dogs compare to pit bulls?

    Me: In which ways?

    Lady: Well over all.

Me: Well first off they're stubborn dogs so you gotta show them whose boss. Otherwise they're the same to me.

At this point this lady's jaws about hit the ground.

    Lady: What about aggression?

Me: Look Pit Bulls and AB's are bully breeds. They're not your Labs or Goldies. These dogs will have an above average aggressive tendancies. I mean you should know you've raised Boxers. They're not that distant from AB's and Pits. The outcome of your dog, regardless of what breed, depends on how you raise them. I suggest you do more research and this time around just don't look at the cute puppy pictures.

With that said I left the couple to ponder what I just said. Hopefully they learned something. And if they did pick up a puppy I hope all goes well, not for the couple, but for the puppy.

LOL. Most people are so dreadfully uniformed.

There was the CUTEST American Bulldog at the dog park this week. Her name was Cupcake and she was only 7 months old and also small for her age. She liked to sit on your feet and wait for scritches on her back. Her owner said she was one step above the furniture as far as activity level goes, and that she makes their old Basset seem like an active dog. LOL.
