Duke always request permission before jumping up on the bed. Last night I was brushing my teeth when Dukemom, already in bed, gave permission and Duke jumped up and curled up in his usual spot.
I came back into the bedroom and Dukesmom said she wanted to pull a little more blanket over to her side. Of course there was this 80 blanket weight curled up in the middle. I told her "No Problem", I'll just get Duke off so she could pull the blanket over.
I called to him to "come". That only got his head to raise. I then sat on a ottoman near the foot of the bed and called again "Come Duke, get down" as I pointed to the floor. At this he finally, with a groan, got to his feet but just stood there on the bed giving me a very puzzling look.
Now I was getting aggravated so more firmly I said DOWN. Now he looks back at Dukesmom then back at me and I swear he was almost in tears. He must have thought I was revoking his bed privilages. The look he gave me was so pitiful I had to stiffle a laugh. I'm sure he was thinking that "MOM said I could get up here so who are you to tell me to get down."

I was about to really get serious when Dukesmom, seeing his reluctance and sensing his confusion, told me "never mind, leave him alone."
OK now it's Duke and Dukesmom vs the bad guy.
No win for me. I got into bed and after the manditory four turns Duke plopped back down but proceeded to give me the evil eye for at least five minutes.
Final Score, Duke 1, Dad 0. Dukesmom, short blanket :D
As the song "Teach Your Children" goes " Don't you even ask them why, if they told you you would cry,, so just look at them and sigh...and know they love you.

    Mike,
You're right about those eyes. I have always said the saddest look in the world is the face of a Lab when you say "NO". :D

And loves-da-pits, A big double groan for that one. :D :D
