    For those of you who remember, I've been trying to capture Ginger the stray/feral orange marbled cat. He was trapped in the middle of the week and was resting in our bathroom until he could be brought to the neutering clinic at the SPCA today. Well he tested positive for feline AIDS and had to be euthanized. I know it's for the best but I'm devastated. I know he's at the rainbow bridge with Vene. I had grand plans for him including possible socialization. I would guess him to have been 2 years old. I've been crying all afternoon. The poor kid could've had another year or two of good life or even more but I could not risk my 4 kitties or the neighborhood cats that roam outside. In a way, I killed him. :cry:

    Vene, I am so sorry. :cry: That is so sad. Please don't be so hard on yourself. You did the right thing. Life can just be so unfair at times. Hang in there.

    no vene you DID NOT kill him....you sent him on to a better more peaceful existence.

    You cared enough to get him off the streets. You cared enough to work to end his miserible existence. You cared enough to see that his life ended humanely and his illness and suffering is gone.

    You didn't pass him on the streets and think "oh gee another feral cat" you cared enough to realize that was a living creature in need of help - and you helped.

    You are not responsible for his death - you showed him some humanity by letting his painful suffering end.

    You are to be commended for caring about this poor little lost soul. He's not on the streets anymore looking for food and being sick...his ending was much better than his life was.

    Ditto to what Mary said, you ended suffering...AND you saved an unknown number of other kitty lives by preventing exposure. You did a kindness. I do understand how you feel though, I know that it would have broken my heart as well. But you did the absolute right thing. :kiss_heart: :love_y_t_much:

    Oh Vene I'm so sorry :cry: You did everything you could for Ginger. Puting him to sleep was the right thing to do, even though it hurts. You are not his killer, but his saviour. You were the only one caring enough for this homless cat to take him in under your care.

    ::hugs:: :love_y_t_much:

    Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts. I can't stop the pain and sadness of losing Ginger but having friends like all of you helps out quite a bit. I hope Ginger can rest in peace. All I wanted to do was to give Ginger a loving home and it's not going to happen. I hope all the other stray and feral kitties not suffer Ginger's fate. Life can be so cruel and uncertain. It's not fair!

    Life certainly can be cruel. But you did the right thing, and you should be proud of yourself for being able to do that. It's not easy.

    Ahhh please Vene, don't be so sad. You have such a big heart........and all of the kitties that you have ever touched are lucky to have you in their lives. Ginger knew love from you and that's a beautiful thing. Let's love our precious babies as much as we can while we have them in our lives, and the universe will know that we all will take care of the glorious creatures that are provided to us. Please be happy to know that Ginger is watching you, and she's well and free.

    im sure ginger is ok with it. you saved her a lot of pain an suffering by putting her to sleep. she'll find a way to get back to you sooner or later. in a few years you might find a kittie with ginger's spirit come back to live the life she never had.

    oh vene you have such a big heart. Because you got this kitty off the streets maybe you are saving others from getting sick too. It is just such a shame people don't vaccinate ormedicate or desex their animals.My friend about 6 momnths ago noticed a skinny kitten outside his office and noticed it had a funny shape. It totally hated people and wouldn't come near at first over the months the built a relationship and he realized the reason it was funny shaped was because it had a collar on and the collar went around one side of its neck and then under its armpit, it had rubbed off the hair there. But the cat had begun to trust him the at outside it off. He couldn't take seeing the at outside so he brough her home, bbut luckily for him this kitty was healthy. She has adjusted to her new life and new kitty friends, she doesn't mind being an indoor cat at all. But now there is a new cat running around the office, my friend doesn't know what to do, he can't save them all. I wish people were more responsible to begin with.
    Vene you get the award of the day for big heart and carin g so much!
