    Hello,
I'm new to this site. I've been reading posts and it all sounds so interesting. We're from Michigan's upper peninsula where it seems to stay pretty cool most of the year. We're still waiting for spring. Anyway, we rescue dogs. Our latest little guy came from 700 miles away. He's a 2 1/2 year old Keeshond who has chronic colitis. We've had him to numerous vets, animal hospitals, holistic vets; have tried all different kinds of food. Right now we have him on a duck /potato diet along with 850mg of Sulfasalazin and 300mg of Metronidazole daily. He still has problems but so far this is what has helped the most. We've had him go thru the upper and lower GI's, blood work and extensive documentation on all that goes in and comes out!! Has anyone else gone thru this type of problem with a dog? This is just the latest. I could write a book on the dogs and the problems they go thru. Thanks in advance. Quinnsmom :)

    Hi,
I havent had a dog with a chronic colitis problem per se although I had one with a severe allergy problem which involved a lot of vomiting and diahrea. I had him allergy tested (RAST with Spectrum labs), there were only a couple of foods on the market that he could eat and he received injections for about a year (once a month). Did great after that.
However there is a poster in here that is extremely knowledgable on natural diets for specific problems or just as a general diet, Im sure she will see your post soon and respond.

    Thank you to DeLauk

Thank you for your input. My last dog had severe allergies and what we didn't go thru with her! We finally had to put her on steroids which actually had a big part in her passing but it was the only thing left to put her on so that she woudln't bite herself all the time. We even had baby T-shirts on her all the time. I wouldn't give these little ones up for anything. That's why we adopt them, to try and give them all the help we can. They certainly become family in no time. Thanks again. Quinnsmom
