well if it wasnt bad enough i woke up late again for work today..when i got into the living room...my xmas tree was on top of my coffee table...shattered glass everywhere and tons of shards in my bedroom and bathroom...i know they are only 7 months old..but OMG...they had been soo good w/ the tree...only taking down an ornement here and there..but they leveled this tree...i ended up taking a vacation day from work..and cleaning glass up all day...bc everytime i turned around..one of the little guys had another piece of it in their mouths...i dont think they ingested any of it..but i am keeping a close eye on em..this is just like having kids..lol...well, suffice to say the ornaments are down..now my pitiful tree only has lights..and those only go on when i am there to watch them with them!

Wow! I'm scared to go home now since I have a little 5 month old hellian. She keeps eyeing up the tree and climbing under the tree skirt. Last night she was trilling so loud (while under the tree) you could hear it from the second floor!

I can't believe your tree got knocked down! I bet my little one could do it if she tried.

Sorry you had to clean up all that glass. Muchless, it probably scared you to see glass in your cat's mouth. Hopefully everything is okay.

I'm so sorry to hear about your christmas tree :( I hope the kittens turn out ok.

I have no idea how Kyrre will react to the christmas tree... Maybe I should go for the kitty proof type: Bolted to the wall

Sorry to hear about that. Looking at it from a kitten's perspective, I guess something like a xmas tree is just incredibly tempting and fun to play with/in. If I were a kitten, I'd probably be all over that thing. :) You really can't blame 'em.

One possible solution would maybe be anchoring the tree to the ceiling or wall, maybe through an eye hook in the ceiling with string wrapped around the tree and into the hook, and only putting non-breakable ornaments on the tree this year (or until they've proven that they won't break them). Luna is around 4 and she has no interest in climbing the xmas tree, so maybe it's something they'll grow out of. Or maybe you could get a smaller tree this year, like a little 2 foot jobber, and put lights and unbreakable ornaments on it. Maybe they wouldn't try to climb such a small one?

I wonder if one of those floor-to-ceiling cat trees would provide an outlet (or a diversion) for their climbing instinct.

    Good luck!

I'm so sorry you had to get rid of your tree. Naughty kitties. There must be a way to have a tree. The other suggestions sound good. Also, maybe you could get a smaller tree and put it on a table and use non-breakable ornaments on it for this year. Hope you find a solution. :?

All this posting about Christmas tree dangers just makes me appreciate my Vianne more and more  She's so good. This is her first Christmas tree and I didn't put any glass ornaments on it, nothing easily breakable, and some lights. When i first pulled it out she wanted to use the trunk as a scratching post but she's tried that before on another fake tree i have in the livingroom, so i don't think she finds it any more fascinating than the oter one. I hissed at her when she touched it the first couple days, but she's been being great with it. Of course i don't worry about waking up to anything like some of you cuz she sleeps in the kids room at night since the dog is in the livingroom where the tree is. Its great now, but I guess i may have more to worry about when ever I move from here and don't have the same kind of setup. Merry Christmas everybody! :D

I'm so sorry to hear about your tree...sounds like some mess they made. When I had my tree up I only put plastic ornaments on it.
