The first 3-5 days of life the fry will depend on their yolk sacks for food, after that 3-5 day period you may start feeding you fry foods such as baby shrimp, alive or frozen, myself, i raised my platy fry on bottled foods. If you go to your LFS they usually in the fish food sections have food in a bottle such as your regular fish food, but this is fry food. Feed them as directed on the bottle. When the fry are small it is hard to filter the water so it is advised to make water changes multiple times a week. I kept mine in a 10 gallon and with the fishtank came a filter, with that filter i took a piece of foam and cut it out so that it would fit over the suction section making it safe for the fry. Be sure to check your ammonia and other levels often, with the fry eating so much of course waste is produced. The filter or non filteration system will not keep the fishtank clean enough to keep your fry safe. When the ammonia level is above level or just once in awhile move the fry to a temp. tank and do a gravel cleaning, be sure that you have all of your fish removed due to size you would not want to lose any of your fish. If you follow those steps you will have a great chance to have healthy fry, be sure to keep the mother away from the fry or any fish large enough to eat them. When the fry are large enough so they cannot be eaten by the other fish you may move them to the tank of your choice (fish depending)
