Someone was asking a while back about choosing a dog for a hearing assistance dog. Whole Dog Journal has an article in the April issue about traits that are selected for in assistance dogs, and here's what they say about hearing dogs:

I didint get mine :? wonder whats with that

interesting thata high energy dog would be good, Even though its a job, I would think they need more activity and stimulation glad to hear they get older dogs from shelters to train

High energy dogs are just that because they need a job... MOST service dogs are high energy dogs because they have to first WANT to do SOMETHING/ANYTHING and secondly be easily trained for PRAISE rather than treats...because...praise is all they will get...

They had different profiles for different types of service dogs.

Honeybears, you can always read the journal online if you didn't get your paper copy.
