Help - 4 mo old kitty trouble again

This kitty is turning into one disaster after another. As for updates on my little guy, he's completely come out of his shell. He snuggles with me constantly. I absolutely adore him. However, since I lasted posted a message, he came down with a horrible upper respiratory infection. I had to take him to the ER where he stayed the night. One week and $1500 later he's starting to get better. Now, for the first time this afternoon, I noticed that his left ear is scabby on the inside and out and patches of hair are missing! Based on my research this could be mange (which I probably have myself bc I'm constantly petting him), ringworm, allergies, or just about anything. No matter what it is, it seems like it will be a fortune. I'm trying to get into my vet tomorrow but in the meantime I'm completely worried about him and myself. Do you think this is mange? How common is that? Thanks!

 

Hi. We can only guess what your cat may have. For now, as long as he is eating, drinking, going to the "litter-room" and basically acting like himself, he should be fine until you can see your vet.

Sorry you had to go to the emergency vet. They really do charge a lot!

where it's just involving his ears I would think more in the lines of ear mites. Can you gently put a q-tip into his ear and see what comes out? If it's ear mites the stuff on the q-tip should look like dirt.
Ringworm, I believe, mainly affects the torso. Mange would involve a lot of fur loss on the torso also.

 

I was going to suggest...if you do get any gunk on the q-tip take that to the vet and save yourself money on an office visit.
I always did that...they would check the q-tip under a slide and give meds accordingly.
