I want to help a coworker out so I am posting this question. He recently adopted a cat from the SPCA. She's about 7 years old, and hasn't eaten in 9 days. They have tried every type of food possible and can't get her to eat. She does drink water, although only out of a faucet. She is also sneezing alot which I thought might be an allergic reaction to something in the house causing her not to eat. Any opinions or ideas would be appreciated.

I just adopted a cat Friday. She had the same symptons as your friends cat, she isnt eating, she is drinking, but she is sneezing. The sneezing gradually got worse and worse, i took her to the Vet, she has an upper respitory infection. Thats why she isnt eating. I would take the cat to the Vet, you can get some medicene if she is sick.My girl just started eating more today. Goodluck!

cat not eating for 9 days

I agree totally with Winnie, if the cat really hasnt eaten for that long she needs to go to a vet ASAP, is your friend sure she isnt eating a little at night? URI's are common with adopted shelter cats and if they cant smell their food which they often cant depending on the severity of the infection then they wont eat. It might also be a good idea as the cat is 7 years old and the history is probably unknown to have a full blood panel done to make sure everything is going okay, not eating for this long can affect the major organs (kidneys, liver etc).
