Have 2 cats, 13 and 15 yrs, both in early stages of kidney failure. Need to know if anyone is going through this and has used Fortekor or Lotesin (u.s. name) to try and maintain the kidneys. Also, what can I use for flea control on my cats? Can't use stuff from the vet's office.

if your cats are flea-free and inside only I wouldn't use anything - I haven't had to resort to flea stuff in years (knocking on wood).
When I had a CRF cat she was about 8 when diagnosed a tad bit beyond early stages and she saw her 16th birthday  diet is the key. Tami lived on CD prescription food and did very very well. Now and then she'd had to go to the vet to receive fluids but usually only if she got into some food other than her prescribed diet. I never had to give her medications - could be cause she was a tad bit past the early stages

Another one chiming in here! Our cat Loki was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. That was about 6 years ago. :) He's still spunky, bossy, and mouthy. In fact, maybe moreso. ;)

We've helped control his problems with diet and one Renacare tablet a day. It can be a bit irritating at times, playing 'chase the cat around the house', he hates his pills, but overall he's got a great quality of life, and has a lot of fun. :)

    Hang in there! It's do-able!
