HELP!!!! dog vs. cat round 1

I have a 1 1/2 year old DSH. He has always lived alone, outside and inside. I got a new dog, 4 years old, he likes cats but when I tried introducing them ben (the cat) hunched him back, har went straight up and his tail doubled in size, he started growling and hissing at the dog...so right now he is in the basement and I am not sure what to do to make these two co-exist. PLEASE HELP

ps ben is not nuetered and the dog is female and she is fixed.

 

It can be hard for pets to get along when first introduced but many pets eventually get along and do fine with each other. I guess the key is to take it slowely and keeping them separated at first and slowely introducing them. Give them both a lot of patience and love.

Get your kitty neutered!!! What's the point of having him not done. Bet he's a PITA around the neighborhood!! Unneutered and spraying everything. What a joy.
sorry had to go off on a tangent unneutered/unspayed cats or dogs is a pet peeve. Even worse if they are spraying my car tires and I have to smell it
