Ok,we went to the Animal Shelter the other day (I know, I was just asking for it..)...anyway, there was this HUGE male kitty that caught my attention. He's about 1 1/2 years old and I've been thinking about him since we left there. So I called them tonite, he's still there. All they know is that someone brought him in as a stray and that he's neutered. She said she didn't think he was cat aggressive as he's in one of those airt cages with no solid sides and he's in very close proximity to other cats and he pretty much ignores them...the same with the dog that runs around there, doesn't bother him much. (we have 5 cats and a lab at the moment.) I held him while we were there and he was just a big mush in my arms, purring and all. Din't try to get down at all or anything, he just layed his head on my shoulder and as VERY content there. Hehas tested negative for everything, also.

I have a few questions that maybe you can help me with. Since they don't know much about him, and he's neutered (I'm not sure whether he was already or they did it), I'm worried about spraying. (There, he seemed very laid back and easy going) Do you think he'll have issues with that? An what about his personality? I know adjustment takes time and it takes time for the real personality to shine through, but do you think it will be a lot different than it was there (laid back and easy going?)

Any suggestions or comments would be very appreciated!

    Thanks!

I don't have a lot of experience with male cats having only my Zeus as a male (first male pet) and I've only fostered one male cat...BUT...when fostering this male cat who was neutered the day before I got him and he'd been on the streets for a long time I worried about him spraying and him getting my Zeus spraying. It didn't happen :y_the_best: they were both so laid back and I think Tony was just so happy to be off the streets with a full belly and a soft bed spraying was the last thing on his mind.
You can ask them if the cat was neutered prior to coming there or while there. I believe most male cats that are neutered prior to or around the age of 6 months, before the testoserone hits their system they aren't as apt to spray.
He sounds like a love. Just take the integration slowly and don't push the introductions. He sounds like a pretty securet guy and after you get him (and you know you will) be sure to post a picture

    Help in a good way!

I've called and left a message for them to hold him for me til I can get there after work tomorrow  ( They were closed when I called the second time.) I'll call again in the morning to make sure. He's sponsored (which I just found out the first time I called) so his adoption fee isn't as much. THe lady also said that there is a 2 week trial periodn and if it doesn't work out, I can 'trade' him for another kitty....but that's not going to happen. Once he gets here, he'll be here to stay. ( He'll stay in the bathroom for a bit so he can calm down and the others can get a chance to smell him and vise versa..the lastt wo we brought home, we just showed them where the boxes were and left them there and they came upstairs on their own...was a little difficult doing it that way.)

I've only had two other male kitties ( both waiting at the Bridge, and dearly missed), and they were neutered at a young age, so there was no spraying issue. I'm also hoping he stays the mush that he was when I held him the other day.

I will definitely post pics when he gets here. :D

It all really depends on his personality and how well he adjusts to coming into your home. Are there cats that roam around outside on your property? Thats one of the major reasons why cats think it needed to spray all over the house. I have a cat, Milo, who's the sweetest cat ever...but he sprays like no cat Ive ever seen. He's neutered but he came into our house when he was a year old. But I have my big huge kitty Jakobi, who's the laziest cat in the bunch, who has never sprayed. I got him when he was just a wee little kitten.

If you do happen to have a spraying problem, there are some things that can help. I'm sure a few people on this board have gone through it before .

He sounds like a sweetheart  I hope everything goes well with introducing him to your other pets. Does he have a name from the shelter, or are you going to give him one? :) Can't wait to see pics!
