Help, parents dog not eating

my mom came over last night to drop off her dog as they are going out of town, mom said she hadnt eaten in 2 days, and thinks it just may be the heat, it has been unbearable and this dog really hates the heat. To top it off she said oh wal-mart was out of her food and I got something different. I said you cant do this, especially if she is not eating. She was not eating before this as mom just tried this new food yesterday.

She wouldnt eat eat this morning, I could not entice her even with cooked hamburger and liverwurst. Because of this she is not getting her thyroid meds
What should I do, and how long should I wait?

I wouldn't wait long - she needs those thyroid meds. Why not just pop one into her mouth?

 

"Why not just pop one into her mouth?" Because I want keep my hand I wouldnt think twice with my dogs, about doing that.

she is a shitzu, but she is the meanest little dog. I will give it a try though when I get home, and if she doesnt eat tonight I will take her to the vet to see if something else is going on

 

you watching my friend's shih tzu? Known to be the nastiest, meanest little dog in the land...must be a shih tzu thing. Her dog has bitten everyone it meets - including nearly removing my friend's nose one night cause she woke him up by petting him.
Her dog isn't a good eater either but he also has a liver shunt which makes him not hungry most of the time.

 

well I did get her to eat, I think she may have a tooth problem the way she was eating. She is acting so wierd. She is panting excessively, following me everywhere. Not like her at all. I have watched her many times and she has never acted like this. They need to get her in for a full senior exam when they get back.

 

I was reading on another post aobut dogs either not eating or being too thin and I found this recipe, it's not used as a diet but can be used for dogs not holding weight or dogs who won't eat....maybe you could use it and make a meatball for the pill to go into if he/she'll eat it....



10 pounds hamburger meat [the cheapest kind] high fat
1 lg. box of Total cereal
1 lg. box oatmeal
1 jar of wheat germ
1 1/4 cup veg oil
1 1/4 cup of unsulfured molasses
10 raw eggs AND shells
10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meatloaf.

Divide into 10 quart freezer bags and freeze.

Thaw as needed and feed raw!
