    Help Please -
My dog's in heat and my other dog is neutered, but won't stop licking and mounting her.
She is 1 yrs old, very submissive and pretty much lets him do whatever.
Although she is an Australian Shep/ Rotti Mix and is about 20 lbs larger than my 3 yr old male beagle.
    He does this non-stop!
Any advice, other than seperating them, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Separating them is about all you can do......other than getting the female spayed (no heat, no reaction from male dog)

That's what I thought... but just kind of hoping for an alternative.

    Thanks for the reply!

How long has your male been neutered?

The kindest thing to do is either board out your male until your females cycles has ended or, ask a family member to take himtill she is finished.

Even though he is neutered he will still mount and penetrate your female, You will find the poor guy will get frustrated which is not good for him.

So i would try and house him elsewhere until she ended her heat.

Also you may want to think about having her spayed 12 weeks after the cycle ends this is the best time to spay a bitch that has been in heat as its 12 weeks after a cycle and usually 12 weeks before the next.

LOL why would he be frustrated? The gun still works it's just firing blanks!

I agree though board him or send him away till it's over. Then get her fixed.
Then again there is no harm being done to either animal, unless you think when they get knotted is causing her a problem.

The reason they get frustrated is because even though they are neutered the basic need to breed can still be there, Which basically is not fair on having a neutered or intact dog around an in heat bitch...

There is no problem of him going through the motions with her apart from the the higher risk of false pregnancy, Also some dogs have been known to still have active sperm for upto 6-8months sometimes longer after being neutered and most vets recommend keeping him away from bitches in heat for atleast 6months...

SO unless he has been neutered for over a year then chances are he may still be able to impregnante her which is not a wise idea since both are different breeds aswell as the female being a cross breed.

Why is the female not yet spayed??? Separation is the only thing you can do...
