my problem with the HSUS is very llittle of the money donated to them actually goes to shelters. Maybe if they earmarked specific funds for a disaster it works differently...but I think they spend most of their money on gifts they send out. I get tons of crap from them.
My local shelter (a humane society) said they never see funds from them although HSUS does label themselves as helpers of shelter animals. I'm leery of them.
