HELP!! Trying to get new cat to get along with the old cats!

Hi Everyone...
My Mom just moved in with me and my four cats. She has a cat of her own that doesn't seem to be getting along very well with all my cats. Does anyone have any advice for me?? It's been about a month, and we can't get her out of the closet!!

 

I hope she hasn't been in the closet for a month... The best ting is to take introductions slowly. You should start over and give the new cat her "own" room that none of your cats have access to. Then you can start swapping things between the cats; beds, toys etc. so they'll get used to each others smell. Do this for a while before you introduce her to your cats, one at the time, and always supervised to begin with. Remember patience is the key :y_the_best:

I once brought home an adult cat, and introduced him to 3 cats living here. It caused a lot of problems for about 3 months, but we worked it out in the end.

Initially I would bring him downstairs in a big cat carrier, so they could all see him, and he could see my 3. At the beginning when I was out I would put my new guy upstairs, and the others downstairs as if I left them together he would terrorise them all! Then, when I was home I would have them all in one room with me and would supervise. There were many fights and many problems, but over a period of time they did settle and they all learnt to get along together, or at least tolerate some of the time! The new one had been ill treated too, and wasn't used to living with other cats, so it was a huge challenge but there was a happy ending.

I think you just have to take it slow, and not expect too much for a while. They need time to accept each other, and also for them to sort out their hierachy!

i got a 3 month old kitten 5 years ago and she still doesnt get along with buster- buster has no problem, hes an old, fat, sleepy, happy cat if he gets his food, attnetion, and his 18 hr. nap every day hes happy. shadow has learned to tolerate him but if shes in a crappy mood buster beware! (couse doesnt help when i cant keep him out of her food bowl!)
