My family is getting a new pet. The main owner will be my 5 year old son who has been longing for a pet for over a year. We finally decided on a parakeet. I had a parakeet when I was in highschool and I loved being a bird owner. This way i won't feel put-out when I have to do most of the care.
We found a person who breeds birds and she has some baby budgies that will be ready to come home in about 4-6 weeks. I took Marcus over a couple of nights ago so we could see them. We are both in love... marcus has drawn about a dozen pictures for his parakeet already and has named it Cracker.

We have 4 weeks to get ready, as in, we need to find a cage and learn all about the things we need to do. Would would love any advice you can give us.
