    Hi!! I'm Amanda, kitty mommy to 2 cats who are a little over 2 years old. We've had them since they were about 8 weeks old. My question is does anyone know why a cat would develop a fear of men? One of my cats is terrified of men...everytime one of my husbands friends comes over she hides under the couch or in another room until several hours after they leave. If a woman comes in our house its completely different. She will let them pet her and seems totally at ease. No man has ever been mean to her or treated her badly in any way and she is my husbands baby, so I just can't figure it out. The only thing I can think of is that about 5 months after we got them my husband left for Iraq, and there were no men around her for a little over a year, but as soon as my husband got back she went right to him and didn't act funny at all about him being home. Anyone know how I can get her more comfortable around men?? I hate to see her so stressed out just because a man is in our house. Thanks!

    Hi! And welcome to the forums. I have no idea why some cats (and dogs I know) are like that. I think it's just the deeper, louder voices, larger physiques that make them uneasy. As long as the cat is safe and comfortable in it's hiding place, I wouldn't worry too much. I'd just try to coax them out with extra treats when the "scary" person leaves.

    Maybe someone else here will have better advice!

    Hi Kittymommy welcome to the forum.., my Tiff is very wary of men too, some smells can frighten them, she is fine with my hubby and other women, but men she tends to hide away, she has never been abused by any man as Iv had her since she was so tiny. Some are more timid then others, as for my Jay well he just loves everyone LOL.. :lol: Tiff is just more quieter and very very loyal to me, she really is a one person kitty and some Kitty's do that, pick 1 person and that's all they will tend to want to be around. :D

    Hi there;

    Yeah, cats can be funny that way. Who knows, maybe a man scared her somehow when she was little and it's kinda stuck. About all you can do is try to expose her to men and teach her it's gonna be OK. She may never get completely over it but maybe she'll stop hiding so much. maybe.

    Cheers :)
