Homeless kitten with an injured leg.

    Hi,

I found a little kitten in a mud puddle yesterday. It was crying, wet, skinny, shivering, just very sorry-looking... and it was also right next to the street, so I decided to take it home. I don't know if I can keep it because I have a large dog who has never met a cat before, but I do feel for the poor little kitten. The kitten seems to really like the dog though (he's very interested too).

I guess the biggest problem is that it has a leg injury or birth defect... one of its hine legs is lower on the hip and it isn't supporting itself on it properly. The leg is slightly limp, and there are no outer wounds. I would gladly get this taken care of and pay the full cost, but I have no money whatsoever. :( We struggle to pay the rent and often go hungry ourselves, we can't afford hundreds or thousands of dollars in vet bills. Is there any place that could take a look at this kitten's leg and possibly even do something about it? I saw the low cost spay/neuter sticky, but right now I'm more concerned about its leg.

I'm in Hollywood, FL (zip 33021).

The kit seems to be doing fine otherwise. It's sleeping and eating well (canned food and catmilk). It's a bit on the scrawny side, but it should recover soon because there's nothing wrong with its appetite. :)

Eternally grateful for any help. :)

Perhaps you can contact someone here at one of these shelters in your area and ask them to recommend a vet that they use that would not charge an arm and a leg. A lot of the times, a vet will allow installment payments for vet visits. Or perhaps you might want to give up your cat to a no-kill shelter if you can't afford to give it vet care, or if the cat does not get along with your dog.

i would take it immediately to a shelter...or foster care. it may have a broken bone and is in pain. poor little kitty. i wish you had the finances because it sounds like you would be a good meowmy...but i would seek vet help right away....

:( poor little kitty! It is wonderful that you noticed him and saved his life, now its up to you to give the kitty a better quality of life and seeing that you care so much you probably will make the right decisions!

    Good Luck! \:D/

Awww poor litle babe, get him to a shelter and see what they can do. It's sad that you wouldn't be able to help him, you'd make a good mother!

All the advice above is great, Even though it may be difficult to do if you cannont afford it after finding the least expenivev way to do it then look for a no-kill shelter. Kudos to you for saving its life and please update us.
