How do I get Chloe to gain weight?

Well,

We were back at the vet yesterday and Chloe is back on antibiotics. The vet couldn't get a urine sample to test but she wants us to put Chloe on another round of meds. If she doesn't respond this time, she will need x-rays, tests for Feline Lukemia and AIDS, etc. The vet thinks she still has the UTI since she perked up while on the meds and has slowed down a bit since being off of them.

Since two weeks ago (when we went in for Chloe being skinny) she has lost a little more weight. She was 10 pounds a year ago, 7 pounds two weeks ago, and now 6 pounds 10 ounces.

The vet wants us to bulk her up. We were given nutrical (which Chloe hates... just our luck).

Any suggestsions on SAFE ways to get Chloe to gain weight quickly (aside from giving her canned food as much as possible)?

 

Hi. Perhaps just feed her as much of the foods she enjoys eating. Most cats love soft food (such as Fancy Feast). Is there a reason why she can't eat it? You could also give her packaged cat treats. I know our cats sure love these.

 

Chloe's a difficult one. She was very sick as a kitten and had pneumonia. Long story short, she has chronic problems with her sniffer and isn’t much of an eater because of this. She can’t smell well and even warmed tuna doesn’t really peak her interest. She's not skinny because of this, though. She was sick at two months and now she's seven years old. She was fine until recently.

She does eat and she is eating the canned food every time I can shove it in her face, but I want to bulk her up and not have to wait months for it. She doesn't care much for any cat treat we have ever tried.

A friend suggested baby food which I may consider. I just don't want to feed her anything harmful. Some people suggest things like milk and I won't do that since cats are actually lactose intolerant. I'd probably make her sicker than she was.

 

Poor Chloe. Giving her kitten foods both dry and wet/canned will help bulk her up. Baby foods with no onions in it can be given as snacks if she'll eat them. It wouldn't hurt to try. I hope she will feel better soon and gain some weight.

 

We didn't try baby food yet. But, I've been shoving canned food (kitten) at her a lot. I think she's getting sick of me doting over her!

I'll do whatever it takes to get her to bulk up! Even if that means annoying her.

My situation is the opposite of yours (Kyrre is getting a bit chubby), so I'm afraid I don't have any advice... If I were you I'd give the babyfood a try though. Good luck! I hope Chloe feels better soon.
