how many piranhas can fit in a 40 gal

i am planing to get some piranhas so before i do i would like some info.
P.S also tell me how much can if in a 3 foot 40 gal tank. :?: thanx for the info

 

Im not a paranah specialist but Im not sure if you would be able to fit more then one or two in a 40 gallon, what specific breed/species are you going for?

I agree with Obelix, I don't think a 40 gallon is the best size tank for a Piranah! Then again, I could be wrong!

 

You can keep about up to 12 of small piranhas (around 1-4 inches) in that tank TEMPORARILY. They MUST be moved to a bigger tank when they reach around 4/5 inches or all hell WILL break out. Red Belly Piranha are small considering all piranha species I suppose. 8-12 inches. Get at least 4 piranhas (the more the less skittish). I would think 1-2 piranha (55 gallon), 3-6 piranha (75 gallon), 7-12 (100 gallon), 13-20 (120+ gallon). These are just guesses. If you get Black Piranha get only ONE.

 

I completely agree with you Fishkin, however, wouldn't it make more sense to get a tank from the beginning that will properly suit the size and number of fish rather than to wait till the fish are bigger and then you have to go through the hassle of finding a new tank and other things for the new aquarium than to just start of with a good size and have to change later. Your completely right, but, I'm just offering a suggestion if Mason doesn't really want to go through the hassle of getting a new tank. Also, it is possible that he could find an alternative species that he would enjoy just as well as the piranhas without having to spend more money on a new tank! none.....they need well over a hundred gal. remember they grow quite large.

 

didn't you read my post?? he is probably going to get small ones (that how most stores sell em). And my post explains it all.
