I Dont think Jake has gone in a few days and that worries me, I thought I would try some pumpkin today before making a vet appt. He is 100# I was thinking of a tablespoon?

I have been told to just feed a quarter of a can, which I did with an 8-month-old pup who was maybe 30 pounds. She had the opposite problem, but it had good results!

Wow, 1/4 of a can! I found a site that said 2 Tbsp for a dog his size. I just went home and and stopped and got some pumpkin He still hadnt gone :? :? He has a place on the grass he always goes, and nothingthere, I do have a big yard most of it natural, I will have to go on patrol, he is a wierd dog, he very rarely ventures off the grass to goor even explore the yard. He wanst himself yesterday and I just thought it was because we were home for 3 days and he was just tired.

I will give him some more pumpkin tonight
Does anyone know if they dont go what kind of symptoms I am looking for?

worry if he starts to puke....then I'd worry about a blockage of some sort.
does he have a good appetite?
My vet tells me to add either mineral oil or vegetable to get things moving along again...works quicker than pumpkin.
Molly was constipated after her spay and I put vegetable oil (2 tsb.) in her dinner and she was pooping fine the next morning then I added the pumpkin to keep her regular

I am still kind of worried, the vet made it sound like he would have very loose stools and go al lot. he is going in small amounts but they are still pretty hard. I have stopped everything but his raw, no adding veggies or rice, and eggs or supplements. It so funny I immediately come home and do a poo check. LOL

A raw fed dog has small, hard stools only once or twice a day. It's normal. :)

    thats good to know :)

It's also why raw food would be so good for small breeds - the hard stools naturally express the anal glands as they were meant to. Nothing like having to do that by hand! :0024:

well now I am getting nervous. I gave Jake a tbsp of pumpkin with his food yesterday morning and got home and didnt see any poo, my husband had the dogs out front with him when he got home and didnt see him go, I added a tsbp of veggie oil to his food last night I left the dog door open, in case he needed to go out and found nothing, so I gave him 2 tbsp this morning of pumpkin I may end up going to vet to the vet afterall this week-end he is eating and acting fine

Sounds to me like he's fine. the girls only go maybe once or twice a day.
Kabuki goes a little more. Precious, not so much. She goes maybe once a day and sometimes will skip a day. I fretted over it for a while. but then after talking with my vet, and a physical exam, she's just that way.
Could it be that he's eating it? Maybe thats why your not finding it?

See he is like clockwork he goes at least twice a day. I dont think he went yesterday, couldnt find it, I gave him 2 tbsp of pumpkin this morning, went home at lunch, he still hadnt gone, so I took him out for a walk and he went a tiny bit but he really struggled, he was very constipated. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow because something is really not right.

Poor Jake! Let us know how it goes at the vet. It's good you keep up with these things. I probably wouldn't know if my dogs failed to go for a few days!

Jimiya, funny thing is Wylie is so opposite Jake she can go without both for a few days if its raining I dont know how she does it!

Good news    finally this morning he did his thing I wonder what happened to get his system so messed up. so no vet thank god

No doubt. Here's what would have happened. You go to the vet and sit in the waiting room forever. The vet calls you in, Jake takes one look at him and poops all over the floor. The vet says, "That will be $100, please." :0017:
