How much water should a kitty drink?

My new little meezer boy Alex is thriving but I am afraid he is drinking too much water. That scares me having one dog go through diabetes and one with thyroid problems. Symptoms of both are drinking tons of water.

Dh says I am worrying for nothing and he isn't drinking too much. He just goes and fills up pretty good about 3 times a day. My dogs would have to have it constantly so maybe he just likes water. Chloe doesn't drink hardly any so that is what sent the red flag up. He is young still, 8 months so maybe that is part of it. He is going to be a big boy.

I had him at the vet last week for a check up plus he had to have his glands emptied. That is something I didn't know anything about. I have always had females. She wants to wait before doing any blood work. She said his eyes are perfectly clear and his coat is rich and shiny and they would not be with diabetes or thyroid problems.

Hi. There is no actual "right amount" of water that a cat should drink. There are just way too many reasons why one cat might drink more than another. For instance: How hot it is/where you live, if they eat soft food or not (soft food has a high water content, so they will drink less water than a cat who only has hard food), how active a cat is (the more active, the more water they will drink) and so on....

If your cat is healthy, any amount he/she drinks is the right amount for them.
