I am getting very frustrated trying to adopt a dog

First dog I applied for, the foster Mom said our application was excellent but they chose to place the dog with a family where the husband works from home, so he will be home all day. (I completely understand that.) But she said that there is another dog available if I am interested. So I asked her some questions about that new dog and she said she would find out and get back to me. I haven't heard back from her.

I applied for another dog with a different agency. The lady emailed me and asked me to call her the following night to talk. So I called her about 5 times. I kept getting her voicemail and her mailbox was full, so I could only enter my call back number. I did but I never got a call back. So I emailed her and let her know that I tried to call her and got her voicemail, which was full. I asked what is the best time to call. Still haven't heard back from her. I don't have much faith that I will hear back from her. Her voicemail being full tells me that she never checks it.

Am I doing something wrong? I completely understand that these people are volunteers and have other jobs/obligations. So I am not blaming them for anything, I am just trying to figure out the best way to go about adopting a dog. And it is very frustrating!

It may be that right now with Katrina and the devastation she has left behind many rescues are kicking in and trying to be of aid. I know that with Catahoula rescue most transportation trains have come to a halt because of gas prices, the people on the rescue board are collecting monies and supplies and have teams traveling in to people with much needed supplies. In two days we were able to raise over $1,700 and buy dog food, gas, generators, infant supplies, food and water. Even managed to get chain saws to some. They have already made one trip with supplies, money is still being raised and they will be going again over this weekend.
Even without Katrina...rescuers are often overwhelmed and take a long time to reply to their e-mails and calls. It must be frustrating on your end...I hope you find a pal soon.
