Sarina is going to sanctuary living :( she's to never know family life again. Actually she probalby doesn't anyway cause of her disturbed personality.
She can't be slept with cause she attacks whatever body part moves at night.
She can't stay on a lap cause one never knows when she's going to attack.
Can't pet her long cause she goes off w/out provocation.
The only time she seems safe is when she's being fed - she loves to be fed.
Playing with her gets her so wired she can't stop. I was playing wand toys with her hoping it would help release some of the pent-up energy. Problem was she wouldn't stop and when I tried to leave the room she'd attack my legs.
No other alternative for her - well there is and I have to wonder if that would be nicer. So she's going to live in a place, in VA, much like the Best Friends sanctuary, but on a smaller scale.
    Saddens me

Big hugs Mary! Sarina may just be happier at the sanctuary. She has the same personality of my first cat.

I am so sorry to hear of all the trouble that you have been going through. Please know that you have done all that is humanly possible to help this poor cat, sometimes things are just out of our control. You do all that you can, and that's all that you really can do.

I'm sorry to hear it. Maybe her going to the sanctuary is what is good for her. Maybe she'll be happy there. Apparently she's not a people person and may want to live a quiet life.

Sorry to hear the sad news Mary. At least you know that you were trying and made an effort with her, which as we all know, many wouldn't.

There are several clients at the clinic were I work that have had cats with bad behavior problems and have done very well on daily doses of Fluoxetine (generic Prozac)...I wonder if something like this is an option for any of the badly behaved rescue kitties??

I found out today Sarina won't be going alone. There is another return who is being sent back for bad litterbox behavior. Apparently it started day one and his adopters have tried everything (including medication) with no success. He will be virtually unadoptable so he'll be traveling to the sanctuary with Sarina. I can only wish the transporters well as Sarina HATES male cats. Even though she won't be in the same crate, just sharing a backseat of a car will be enough to get her going.
Medicating a cat, especially one that is up for adoption, doesn't usually help their chances of adoption. I thought they might suggest that when I emailed them about her vicious attack on my DH...but they said they'd make arrangements for her to go into the sanctuary.
When she has to be on medication to mellow her nature that's something we have to share with potential adopters, then go into detail. Not many people are going to want to deal w/that. I personally wouldn't...especially knowing what's she capable of. And being only 6 years old that's a lot of years being on a sedative...then if it doesn't work we'd be right back at square one.
Yup she's not a people cat....I do believe once she adapted life at the sanctuary will suit her. They have outside runs for the cats, spacious living quarters, volunteers who groom/feed/clean the cats. They aren't ignored. Although I think she'd prefer to be.
