I have a question re: Vaccines

Hey folks! I took Booger to the vet today for her vaccines. She had FVRCP, Rabies(purevax), Felv, and Feline Bordetella.

I forgot to ask the vet if she may suffer any side effects. Does anyone here know?

Thanks Vene! That explains why she's so sleepy.

Sorry Cassie, I didn't read the actual side effects that went with the vaccines you mentioned. My vet did tell me that my indoor cats can get away without vaccines as long as they had their initial shots, but the outdoor ones definitely need boosters, etc. She saw an increase in allergic reactions with the newer commercial vaccines.

Thanks so much for all that info. I wasn't really worried since Booger stayed with the vet for about 2 hours after the shots. But I was kicking myself in the butt on the way home when I realised that I didn't think to ask about possible side effects to look for over the next few days. When we got home, she ate a little bit then went right to sleep. Although she'll get up every now and then to eat a few more bites, she keeps going back to her bed and sleeping. I also noticed that she felt warm earlier. So she is experiencing the lethergy and fever. My poor baby. She's had a rough week. On tuesday, she was stun or bitten by a bug which made her almost completely lose her appetite. She went from eating 5-6 pouches a day to less than one on tuesday, then two on wed. That's the main reason I took her in but she was due for her shots so I figured I'd get it all taken care of at once.

At least she's in good spirits. When I go over to pet her, she does teh happy-tail flopping and nibbles on my fingers held by her paws. Poor baby wants to play but just doesn't have the energy LOL

Cassie, I hope Booger feels better soon. Sounds like she had allergic reactions to bug bite/sting and the vaccinations. It sounded pretty scary if she had to stay at the vet for 2 hrs after the shots. Check with your vet about giving Booger Benadryl before getting the vaccines next time around. If she had allergic reactions now, it's almost positive she's going to get it again. I don't remember now but my vet said a certain combination of vaccines can cause the cats to have allergic reactions so they are given out at 2 different vet visits. I believe Mary_NH and others know what they are.

OH, Vene, I'm sorry I wasn't more clear about the Vet visit length. When we brought her in, the Dr was in surgery. So they had to board her till he was free. By the time we were able to pick her up, two hours had passed.

After the exam, the Dr said that she was in great health and could not find cause for the sudden loss of appetite but since it's comming back he strongly suspects that she had a reaction to a bug bite or sting. That wouldn't surprise me at all because any fly or gnat she sees in the house is hunted relentlessly to the death. But if it's a crawling bug like an ant or spider, she'll just play with it and bat it around. I'm thinking a crawler got her and it just made her ill for a few days.

Her appetite is slowly getting back to normal. I had to open 3 packets today so she's half way there :)

Thanks again so much for your links. They were all awsome. They support the reactions she's suffering tonight/today (fever and sleepyness).. It's so cute though, she really wants to play but she just doesn't have the steam for it. Like, she'll bring me her mouse and fetch about 3 or 4 times then crash for an hour. When normally, my freaking arm get's tired of tossing that stupid mouse 10 to 30 times LOL

I'll phone the Dr's office tomorrow and let them know her reaction so that it'll be in her records for future boosters.

I wanted to mention this, Booger is an indoor cat but she was an 'Owner Release' kitten so she was obviously around at least one cat and sibling kittens. I only have to bring her back for the series of the FVRCP ( a series of 4 shots, 3 weeks apart). Then I'm not going to worry about annual boosters unless she happens to get out but she's pretty good about not darting for an open door beyond wanting to sniff the freash air.
