Like I said I just got a pitbull female, the breeds a land of the giants or something like that, and I was wondering if anone has any tips for potty training. I've read the books, and I understand once she eats take her for a walk, once she drinks take her for a walk, when she goes praise the poo outa her, give her a treat. Just wondering if anyone had any little tips of tricks for me. I was also wondering what should I do if anything (beside say 'bad dog bad dog') shouold I do if she does go number 1 in the house? The breeders I got them from whom seemed super smart and said if she doesn't listen to me (in general) I should basically 'love tap' her in the shoulder, since pits are strong it won't hurt her, but it will get the message across, as well as scolding her, will that help? Also I was wondering any suggestions of clipping the ears, from what I understand it helps prevent ear infections, but im not sure if I want to have it done or not.

    Hi Goyda,
I got these potty training tips from the humane society and it worked like a chram when I housebroke my dogs. When you catch her going inside the house tell her "stop" in a firm voice and pick her up and take her outside. When she goes outside give her a little treat and a lot of praise.
Never rub her nose in it or hit her because that will scare her and she will go where you cant see her.

Take her outside when she gets up in the mornings and before she goes to bed at night. Walk around with her for awhile because it takes them awhile to go sometimes especially at night. Always give her a little treat when she does go outside and a ton of praise. Take her out every few hours in the day. Puppies are like babies they have to use the bathroom quite a bit. :D

This really worked well for me I had no problem getting both my dogs housebroke doing it that way. They would even wake me up at night if they had to go. It was cool. I hope this helped you and good luck. Congrats on your puppy they are so much fun!!

I would suggest CRATE training early for your dog's sake.. It keeps her out of harmfull things, helps her to feel safe and keeps you sane as well. If you crate train potty training should come easier than if you don't...

    How old is she?

    Love tap sounds good.

Cropping ears does nothing beneficial even for hunting and working dogs... it was a practice used only for pit dogs and I think is not necessary except in show dogs perhaps... Otherwise do what you feel is right... But just know there is no health benefit in cropping the ears.

Just take her out all the time, young puppies may take awhile to do their business outside because they are more interested in their surrounding then going potty. When you take her outside and she seems more interested in playing with you then doing her business, then just ignore her, tell her to go potty or whatever and wait till she does her business. After she has gone potty then praise her and play with her and make a big deal out of it. I agree, don't hit her or do any type of harsh punishments. If you catch her pottying in the house then take her outside right away, if you go away and come back and there is a mess, don't discipline her. She won't remember that she pottied in the house and thats why you are punishing her, so just make sure you stay on her. The only real "trick" is just take her out every 20 minutes basically. Also for cropping ears, it does have some medical benefits. Bacteria, fungii, etc.. love moist darks places, and a folded over ear flap is exactly that. Also I have noticed that dogs with cropped ears dont have a problem with ear wax like most dogs with natural ears do. My dog has cropped ears and I check his ears almost every day for buildup and they are always clean. So it's basically your preference, I prefer the cropped look so I got my dogs ears done. Good luck and post some pics!

Shes 9 weeks at the moment, just got her the other day sorry i forgot to include that. Thanks for the advice, and Ill get the pics up prob tomm. I've been taking her out like 8-12 times a day, anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours, and she has no problem doing number '2' outside, but number 1 seems to be a problem. Anyhow thanks so much for the advice!
