hi, my one budgie(Lucky) just died for no apparent reason and now my baby budgie cosmo(about 5 or 6 months old) seems to be mocking how she used to sound.. I was wondering if that's normal.. and also i am planning on getting a new budgie and my friend has one about 2 years old and is more roudy.. I was planning on breeding Cosmo with another bird so i was wondering if the bird my friend has is suitable for the purpose or should i get a baby? Thanks

I am pretty sure that you are not suppost to breed any birds until they are at least a year old.. It could be longer but I think its a year.. so that way if you get a baby your gonna have to wait at least that long... Otherwise im not too sure about breeding but im sure someone can help ya out...

Hi was your baby budgie in with the one that died if so you will need to get this bird checked ASAP just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with this one.

You should not breed any bird until they are atleast 18months old 2years old is safer.

At 12months old your baby bird is still growing and can and most probably will suffer from egg binding which is a very serious problem which usually results in death of the egg bound female.

    Some things to ask yourself.
    When should you start breeding?
How many hours of light do the adult birds need?
what vitamins and minerals should be available to them at all times?
Whats the best things to feed and egg laying female or a female raising chicks?
How many eggs are in an average clutch?
    How often are they laid?
    What is the incubation period?
Why do you want to breed?
Do you have the time to put into making sure everything is right?
Can you deal with things that go wrong like egg binding, chicks suddenly dying, Parents not looking after the chicks.

Do you know how to hand feed and how often?
Do you know how hot there food should be if handfeeding?

If you can not answer all of these then you should not attempt to breed until you have done alot and i mean alot of research.

I breed cockatiels, Budgies, finchs. and dogs i know the things that can and usually will go wrong when you least expect it.

    Mike
