Brie went to the vet yesterday and had her teeth cleaned plus an extraction. So she was there several hours and came home with lots of vet smells. But why, when she got home did SHE jump on Zoey? Zoey of course sniffed her but not as much as the cats did. Brie was all puffed up and growling and almost like she was trying to start a fight with Zoey. Wonder why??? She does this after a bath too. Is she upset because Zoey didn't have to go or have a bath? :0011:

If she was under anaesthesia for the teeth cleaning (some vets are doing it now without any) but the drugs could take up to 12 hours or even longer to get out of her system so she may have still been a little drugged up which doesnt necessarily mean that she would be sleepy, different drugs cause different reactions, some hallucinations, some agitation etc etc. Some pets can act a little crazed just from the whole 'trauma' of being in a different enviroment and away from home, having teeth cleaned and extractions can be painful, so it could have been pain related too, we, as humans might not think of a trip to the vets or even just being bathed is reason to feel traumatized but any change in a pets normal daily routine can be traumatizing for them.

Recovery for all people from anesthesia is different so I'm sure it's the same with dogs... My grandpa was a yeller...he'd yell obsenities and all sorts of stuff...

After a bath she might just be full of herself...LOL...All of my dogs get WOUND after bath time.

    coppersmom,
I just noticed a correlation in another post that might help exlain the symptoms you observed. It indeed might be a reaction to the anesthesia. Read the comments in this thread: http://www.auspet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9160
Check with your Vet to see what, if any, anesthetic was used.
Let us know what you find out.

Wow--I hadn't read all of that post about ACE and the boxers. Thanks for pointing it out, Dukesdad.
I wouldn't really say she was any more aggressive post-op than she sometimes is--like after a bath, but I will ask the vet if they used it. I know that my vet prefers to "gas" them (don't like to use the term "put to sleep" in the vet setting--lol) and the last time I took her I held her while they started it because she used to nip and bite if anyone else touched her. I don't think they started an IV either. And yes, I know that she gets very traumatized just walking in there so hopefully that's just it.
Zoey is up next for her cleaning--I will definately ask about the ACE.

    Thanks for all the input!
