I may be going to this event held by a local human society. It is a dog walk and then a halloween costume contest with you and your dog. I have never been big into dressing up for Halloween so I'm stumped. So...I'm looking for ideas. It has to be something I can buy (no sewing) but buy cheap. And it has to work with a St. Bernard. Any thoughts?

what about you as a cowgirl and your dog as a horse?
Or if it is cold you can go as a mountain climber and your dog could go with a barrel around his neck.
Maybe put horns on your dog (like a cow) and you could go as a milk maid.
If I think of any more I will post again.

You could dress up as a cat and leave him like he is???

I like the cowgirl and horse idea...
You could dress up as Wendy from the WIzzard of Ozz and dress him up as a scare crow, or the tin man or the lion!!!

What ever you do. I want photos!!!

buycostumes.com has some really great costumes for people and dogs, they are also pretty cheap. I ordered my 3 girls costumes from there and it only cost $34 including shipping. Check it out you might find something there. They have lots of dog costumes to and A LOT of people ones.

I like the idea of idea of mountain vlimber and rescuer, so easy and cheap and what you ahve to think about is will he/she wear anything, my dogs wont have anything to do with costumes, ear etc, thats why I like the barrell/mountain idea. sounds like fun!

I'm going to look into the mountain climber/rescuer one. Problem is I don't have a barrell and am not exactly sure where you would get one. I also don't have any mountain climbing or even any winter looking clothes. Where I live it never really gets cold except the occassional 1-2 days a year. Then we all just stay at home. :)

But thanks for that website. I'm still thinking. I figure if I am going to do it I want to do it right. lol. Here are my thoughts:
Harry potter and prof. Mcgonagall (sp?)
    both of us vampires
    both of us prisoners
    Prisoner and sheriff

I had a really good thought of him being Chewbacca and me being Queen Amadala but all the Chewbacca costumes are like $100+. :( also I thought of him being Yoda. If I can get a yoda mask and then just cut off the ears and somehow get those stuck on him that would work.

But..here is another question. Is there a safe way to temporarily dye dogs hair? Like I was thinking about if we are vampires trying to get red on his face?

And another good idea I had was for him to be the Hulk (he is so big it is just fitting) but I am not sure how to get him completely green? Then I Don't know who I would be but I just think it would be really funny seeing him as the hulk.

    Kool Aid. Works great.

Get the color you prefer. Mix with hot water in a spray bottle. For your dog with long hair, I would use 2 pkgs per gallon of watter.
Spray on him while his hair is dry. Saturate it until its wet with the kool aid. Let it dry!!
He'll stay green for a while though. Like 2 weeks!!!

Here is a funny idea someone had at my local shelter for an upcoming halloween party:
You dress as a fire hydrant and let the dog go as himself.

I dont know if your city has Kroger/Kessel grocery stores or not but at our local ones they have (clear) barrels that come with chips and snacks in them. If you were to get one of those you could spaypaint the inside of it brown and use it. You could also probably make one by wrapping brown paper around a football with the ends made of flat cardboard then painting it. If you need any help just ask and I will do what I can!!

I just checked online and found this site
    http://www.sover.net/~newfvt/walnutinfo.html
that has authentic St. Bernard brandy barrels for sale!!

Sorry, I know this is not a suggestion but ...

Who is Wendy? I am just wondering. I have been thinking about it and I cant figure it out!
Do you mean Dorothy? I don't think I have ever heard of a Wendy... ?

You could go as Dorothy though and just have an oversized Toto!

    Pet costumes...

    Greetings:
Well, did you decide on a costume yet? I am sure whatever you decide on you and your dog will look great
My daughter wants to dress up her dog as a hostess twinkie and she wants to go as a hostess cupcake.
I don't know where to get a hostess cupcake costume for humans?
They sell twinkie dog costumes at PetSmart.

Well, seeing as halloween is just a few days away, what did you and your dog decide to be?

Haven't quite decided. I'm leaning towards doing the rescuer/mountain climber thing. I think it would be the easiest. I also don't think he would wear a costume well so it is the least amount he would have to wear.
