    Hi

I have an adult, injured Lovebird. Lower half of her beak is torn off. She cannot feed herself. I am feeding her baby bird formula and veg/fruit human baby food. Is this correct? What to feed? Will it grow back? Will this food sustain her? thank you

She needs to see an Avian vet ASAP they need there beak to feed correctly.

Make sure the human baby food does not contain any milk as birds are lactose intolerant.

Birds use there beak not just for eating but to climb around the cage bars.
She may do very well being handfed but without veterinary help she may not make it.

Depending on the severity of the damage to her beak it may grow back but please take her to a vet ASAP to have her checked out.

Injured adult Lovebird can't feed herself

    Dear Mike

    Thank you for your help.
I will find an avian vet to take her to.
In the meantime, is the baby bird formula, along with human veg/fruit food the right thing to feed her? Should I try to crush seeds into powder or something? She doesn't eat alot at one time, but she eats often, so I'm trying to make sure she is not suffering due to my lack of knowledge. I will get on the internet and find an avian vet for Dallas, Texas. I called four offices so far, no luck. Right now I am just worried about the content of the food I'm giving her. Thanks

When i have a sick bird i handfeed them with an egg food which is designed for handfeeding and weaning baby birds but can be given at all times.
Here in the uk Its called EMP or CeDe if you can get hold of some of that and mix it as stated on the packet that wil help keep her vitamin and mineral levels up.

Your doing everything correctly at the moment.
