Is my cat normal?

I have a cat, her name is Mariah and we love her to death. We adopted her a little over a year ago and she just fit right into our family. I have had cats in the past, but useually they would keep to themselves and only come out when they wanted to be fed. Not Mariah! she is always around us, "talking" to us and following us to whatever room we are in. I am now pregnant and stay home and she has become so needy. She is constantly at my feet meowing, purring or wanting to be pet. Sometimes she will just sit and stare at me until I acknowledge her. She is always following me around the house and never leaves me alone. Is this normal? Is is because she senses I am pregnant? It doesn't bother me, but I am worried that maybe I am missing something. Every cat I have ever owned has been a loner and hid from everyone unless they wanted food, so this is new for me. Can anyone help? Or give input? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to Auspet. She sounds like a normal, loving, affectionate cat. Some cats are like her and others are less interested in people. :D My Cat Juliet is like yours, but our other cat Ink only wants to be pet now and again. The only time he comes to us is to be fed. He's a bit of a grumpy old man.

they say (I don't know who they is....probably pregnant women) that cats who are very intuned to their owner knows there is a change in your body and they easily pick up on that. Smells, posture, etc.
She knows something is different about you.
I had a cat like that when I was pregnant with my 2nd son. Tami - she became literally attached to me whenever I sat down. I loved that cat.
Your cat sounds like a sweetheart. Cherish her....and be sure to give her ample time to get used to having some competition in the house.
    And congrats

:m23: and welcome! Congrats on your pregnancy! Sounds like Mariah is a super friendly and social kitty. I had the opposite problem. All of my kitties loved following around the house until I got pregnant. I must have smelled different. Seriously, Pumpkin enjoyed sleeping on my ever enlarging belly until she rolled off once too many times. And she never slept on my belly again. Once the baby was born, she resumed following me around the house as long as the baby was no where in sight. And because you are now home, Mariah will be all over you even more.

    Congratulations pizarrojj.

I think it is pretty normal, too. Kitties have different personalities and my one kitty is very needy and the other one not so much. Your kitty sounds very sweet.
