I was wondering about my second female parakeet, which is in the same cage with another male, and another nesting pair. My question is, she's getting large watery poop as if she were going to lay an egg....but the male that is not nesting is not at all interested, but the nesting male preens her and she preens him. Would he father both clutches? Any replies would be helful, thanks in advance.

Hi sorry about the other night i had to rush off as my sister went into labour...

It is possible for a nesting male to breed with 2females i had this problem once the funny thing is he actually still helps feed both clutches so aslong as they all get along i would not worry too much.

If you are wanting them in certain pairs then it would be best to seperate them into pairs in different cages..

    I'm a little confused.

Hi, first off Congrats on being an uncle!
I don't care who pairs off with who. They are all happy and getting along great, and that's fine with me. I got a new nest box and put it up last night. The other one I tried was homemade and I just didn't like it, so I got a new one and it's great! It was only $9 it has the hinge roof, and the sides lift up, and it's got a concave bottom built in. I was impressed. So far I haven't seen anyone go in this one yet. I'm confused, When I cleaned the cage mom never got out of her box, then when I turned around I found the large watery poop. I never saw the mom come out, so I think it was the other female. But normaly when she does come out I see her right away since I'm used to only seeing 3. She also squwaks a lot when she makes her appearance. I'm 90% sure it was my other female. I hope she lays eggs too. Then I could have a couple clutches raised together. Well, now I'm gonna put up another post then do my taxes, bye all

Thats good if you do not mind who there father will be i would just let them get on with it and see what happens..

When there is a female nesting with eggs you can be sure any other females in the same cage or aviary will start to lay shortly after so chances are your other female is getting ready to lay aswell..

Your going to be over run with birds soon lol but the best things about birds i find is they are very theraputic i love to just sit and watch there antics and there displays to each other..

    Lots of bird questions

Mike, thanks for all the info.
I would rather watch my birds than have the tv on, or sit at the computer. They are so entertaining, and I agree than can be very theraputic. My dad isn't in the best of health, he had to retire on a medical...but anyways he sits at the kitchen table and watches and talks to my nephews budgie...he really enjoys him. He also watches my moms canries, even tho he claims he doesn't
My whole family loves animals and I wouldn't hesitate to give my family members a bird if they would like one. I'm not breeding to make money or anything like that. I'm simply doing it for the education and I really enjoy it. Bye
