Im dog sitting a dog who gets tuna mixed in with his food. Is this healthy and ok? Two of my dogs will only eat their kibble with canned food, and i gave them some of the tuna to try and they loved it. It would be a lot cheaper to buy cans of tuna then to buy cans of wet food, but i want to make sure it isnt harmful first.Id rather buy the wet food then cause them harm.

Also if its ok to give to them, should i get the kind with low sodium? Thanks!

It is safe for them but if my dogs get tuna i make sure its not the kind thats in oil as too much oil can cause diareah(sp) and a very oily coat.

When mitzy was pregnant tuna was the one of the things she would eat apart from chicken.

Maybe on ocassion but I don't think I'd be comfortable feeding it regularly.

As far as I know the tuna in oil, if given long term can cause cardiomyopathy in both dogs and cats.

I would give the dog tuna if you want. Just not alot of it. Make sure you dont get the tuna in oil, Bu the tuna in water! 8)
