Ok, so Brie has been itching for a while now so I took her to the vet. Seems like she has a few different skin issues. The vet (not my usual one) identified 2 pustules as bug bites  . Then said the black waxy dots were pigment. Now since when could "pigment" be picked off with fingers and not leave a mark? I also purposely left the "stuff" in her ears for the vet to see. She swabbed it, stained it and said she saw a few yeast and told me to clean out her ears. Even though I told her Brie's skin seemed a little greasy and had a different odor to it. She even took Brie to show the senior vet (my usual one) and he agreed the black dots were pigment! I was then advised to give benadryl for her itching.

Now Brie is sleeping peacefully and hasn't scratched once. It cost me a tank of gas...but she seems better for no apparent reason. :x

No, she doesn't have alot of ear problems. Just the usual looking wax. What kind of powder does your mom put in her dog's ear? I've noticed a different odor on her whole body lately though.

I haven't even given her any benadryl yet lol. Just the vet visit itself (which cost as much as a tank of gas lol) seemed to have helped with the itching.

LOL, that is funny, she got so scare of the vet she cure herself

what are you feeding her?? you might try changing her food and adding a fatty acid supplement to help with the itching

I feed both dogs Natural Balance. I already give her a glucosamine/chrondroitin supplement.

Now I'm wondering if it's a grass allergy that's making her itch. I was off today and they were outside a bit. She was rolling around in the grass that had grass clippings all over it and is scratching again.

I think the grass is Jakes problem too, since we have moved is when all of his itching started, he used to freak out walking on grass, now we have a pool and he is in it all of the time (it could also be the chlorine) and then he gets out and rubs his body like crazy in the grass.

since glocosome is a joint supplment, I would add a fatty acid supplement to ehlp with the itching.

you might try something like this, they have it at drsfostersmith, 60 caps for small dogs for $5.29

Vitacaps* (for dogs and cats). Available in liquid and capsules. Contains a high concentration of Omega-3 marine lipid fatty acids, which can be used in inflammatory conditions, and antioxidants including zinc, which is necessary to help your pet begin to build healthy skin. Best to use for ongoing allergy problems because of the high concentration of marine lipids and antioxidants. When combined with Biotin, Vitacaps are great to use in cases of itching and irritated skin.

There are lots of skin & coat supplements. I currently use Grizzly Salmon Oil but am going to try Lipiderm when I run out. The salmon oil is pretty cheap and lasts for a long time. I'm not sure about the lipiderm - it is a lot cheaper online - do NOT buy it from Petsmart.

Which Natural Balance food do you feed? I tried Nat Bal duck and potato and it made Indy's hair fall out - I think due to the fact that it had a low amount of fat in it. Just something you could look into.

I feed them the NB reduced-calorie food. And I grate a little of the beef meatroll on it too.

Honeybears, I had her on Vitacoat when I first got her because she was fed terrible stuff and her coat was awful. I had forgot about that. Thanks for suggesting it! I wonder if she'd take a capsule...She's not a chow-hound like Zoey lol.

After we came inside today, she had a few big welts on her belly. She had been rolling in the grass again too.

    Thanks for the replies!
