Yesterday while driving home I kept hearing the weather report mention that the remnants of Hurricane Ivan were back in the gulf. This morning Ivan is back to tropical storm force and heading this way. I thought Ivan had moved on north and died after causing so much destruction but NOOOOO.
What we could get here is tons of rain. Tropical storm Allison a few years back dumped over 36" of rain in some parts of Houston and caused more damage to life and property than Hurricane Alicia did in 1983. Parts of Interstate 10 were 10' under water.
Check out this tracking map. The dot that indicates the storm's location on Friday is Houston. Looks like it's going to be a bad weekend here.

Yeah, the news guy asked Bob Breck why he thought they renamed it Ivan and he said something about insurance policy under his breath. Did anybody see that part? lol
I like Bob Breck, I think he tells it like it is.
I guess if it were a new storm then the insurance would have to cover another storm? But if its the same storm (Ivan) then the people can do nothing about it???

    Dukesdad,

I pray Ivan does NOT strike you as bad as it did us!!! Please keep us posted.

Has anybody heard before of such a stuborn one? As it was not enough how much destruction he left behind the first time now he's coming back for more??!! :x

I'm not getting why it matters for insurance whether it's the same storm or not...

I don't know. Maybe it doesn't. I was just wondering why he said it under his breath.
But the hurricane center was having a hard time (maybe arguement) about what they were going to name it.

Dukes Dad, I know. I'm freeking out. I've got puppies on the way. The LSER festival and adoptathon this weekend, and So much more going on!!!

This is NOT the weekend for storms!!!! Can't he hold out until Sunday or Monday???? Ugh!!!!

Ivan the Terrible is living up to his name. Obviously he didn't do it right the first time, so he's got to come back for more!

Oh I am so sorry for you guys, we have had bad wind for last past couple days and my hair just won't stay out of my eyes, and I think that is bad, I guess I am lucky it isn't a hurricane or tropical storm.

Well said puttin! We had like 47 tornadoes in VA from him, one of which is like 15 miles from my house. Althought we didnt get the rain we expected I guess he isnt going to give up.

PS Dukesdad I was strolling through dogster and voting on the dogs and ran across Freckels (sry if I spelled that wrong) so he got 5 paws from me.

This morning what's left of Ivan is hanging out a bit northeast of Houston and it is expected to drift slowly to the southwest towards Corpus Christi. So far here in Houston we haven't had any rain but it's looking bleak right now.
I half expect it to head back east into the Gulf at some point to regroup and try to hit somewhere else.
As puttin said, let's all chant, Die Ivan Die!

Dukes dad and I are only about 20 miles apart. I agreee with him. NO rain or winds or anything, but its looking pretty cloudy. I hope we get a little shower or two to wet things down. The dust is killing me!!! But nothing too bad. LSER is Tomorow and we're moving all the horses in today!

Sams have you and dukes dad met in person. Only 20 miles away, whats that ten minute drive. I hope everything calms down too. You know something around here has been making me snezze like crazy. Must be all the winds blowiing stuff our way. I wish it would rain some here too.
    You all just be careful.

LOL! To make 20 miles in 10 minutes, you would have to be driving at 120mph!! I'm guessing it's more like 30 minutes.

20 miles in Houston could take two hours with all the traffic and road construction. :D
I believe Sam commutes to Houston everyday from around Columbus TX which is about 60 miles west of Houston. I think she works about 20 miles away.
On some weekend she will have to bring her pups to the Millie Bush Bark Park to meet Duke and Freckles.

Yup... travel darn near 80 miles one way a day!! I've been wanting to go out to the Millie Bush bark park. Just lately I've had absolutely no time. Plus with only Smokey I'd be watching him like a hawk. He has a male dog aggression problem. LOVES females, but not males.

Do you know if they allow to have adoption days out there? I would be VERY intrested in that!

Ok, well if it were a freeway, out here maybe 20 miuntes. If side roads more like 30 to 40 minutes.

We got a bit of rain this weekend fromt he remains of Ivan. Right smack in the middle of the Adoptathon, a trainer was working with one of the yearlings, (starting a colt) and it came a sudden downpore for like a hour!!! Talk about a bummer, Everything got wet, soaked all the gifts and raffle items....
But then the sun came out, and a nice cool breeze and the rest of the day was wonderful!!!
