Jaspers Wont Stop Hissing.

When I first got Jasper, he was a little skitish, I thought he might grow out of it, and being with Jay my eldest cat who is very very mellow, might help him. Everytime I tell him off or raise my voice, he hisses, he's very naughty.
I could.. (beat Jay black and blue) , and please me saying that is "JUST" a figure of speech, I'd never harm a hair on there body.. Jay never ever has ever done this to me, he's just soooo soft a real teddy bear, I call jay BB, short for big bear.

Anyway If I raise my voice to Jasper or tell him off, he does this, hisses, and growles too..He scuttles around the house, like all around the walls, behind and under the furniture to avoid us, he's not real social at all, and its slowley getting worse. The only time he'l come is when its food time, and its like nothings bloomin wrong with him, any other time, he wont give you the time of day, its very disheartening.
Any ideas or suggestion, he wont even let you pick him up and cuddle him, he tries to get away.. :|

 

Zeus is very much like this. I just leave him alone and hope he gains confidence at some point in his life - but he's 4 now and no different.
When I take the cats out to my porch, if my neighbors are outside the cats can hear them but not see them - Zeus will pace on the porch and growl the entire time. He doesn't relax at all if he can hear the neighbors

Hi Chezza. Well, there are two possibilities as to why he's such a grump. The first being that it's just his nature (personality). The second is that he may be in pain anywhere on his body. My wife's old cat Ink for instance is just such a cranky, grumpy, ill tempered grouch. However, it is a know fact to us that he has some medical issues that give him aches and pains now and again. Also my best pal Handsome (R.I.P.) once had an issue with a couple of his teeth and boy did he ever get cranky during that period. He was actually hissing at me too, because he was in pain. Once he was treated he was fine.

So, you may want to take him to a vet and see if they can find anything wrong with him. Or at least try yourself to see if you can find any areas that are sensitive to him or noticeable to you (take a good look at his teeth and gums and ears). Perhaps if you touch his belly he gets really cranky or his leg and so on.

 

Yea there is definatley nothing wrong with him Physically, he was dexed not that long ago, and had a clean bill of health.
I wish it wasn't but I think its in him, his personality, what I'm worried about is that he will bite and scratch one of the kids.

 

Hi again. I doubt they did a thorough exam on him when he was neutered. I would still look into the possibility that he may have a medical issue. Medical problems can arise all of a sudden. Another example is when Handsome (R.I.P.) who was an indoor/outdoor cat had an abscess that wasn't visible to me. He was really cranky at this time. I felt around his body and found a huge lump. Took him to the vet and it turned out he had a big abscess most likely caused by a cat fight. Once it was treated he was back to his normal self.

It's also possible that he's reacting to another animal/person that is driving him nuts. In any case try and figure out why he's so cranky. Don't just give up and say he's just like this. There has to be a reason why he's so grumpy.
