Just a quick question to make sure I didn't make this up.

Do dogs eat less when it is really hot outside?

I think yes but I want to make sure I didn't just make that up. Indy hasn't been eating his breakfast lately, sometimes he'll eat it after a few hours though. Just kind of worries me. Of course it is like 100 outside with 100% humidity so I think that is a big part of it - he is St. Bernard so he is NOT happy with this weather. I've been bringing him in a lot more. I bought stuff today to put in his food to make it better - right now he just gets dry kibble so I bought the calif natural can food and one of those lamb roll things by natural balance. He used to always gobble his food down but he has been slowing up as he's gotten older. Plus I think he is a little sad now that Lucy is gone. He misses her but I am getting the new puppy in about 2 wks so that will cause a lot of excitement.

In my experience, yes. Its been really hot here this past week and my dogs usually eat less and have even skipped meals on a few of these days.

Every dog Ive ever had has always eaten less on really hot days, they usually lose a little weight (not enough to be a problem) and then gain a few pounds over the winter.

Yep, They deffenitly won't bother eating their 'meals' when it's hot. Offer them a juicy fresh bone though and they'll snap your hand off! Little buggers.

My vet told me not to worry if he doesn't eat and loses weight throughout the warm seasons.

Yep, less food in hot weather. Although, my dogs will always eat anything I put in front of them it seems. Then again, they are still very young. I cut back on food portions in the summer so they don't get all fat. It takes more energy in the winter to stay warm.

I was reading this and this is what Im going threw right now I think. Lana my border collie mix didnt eat breakfast or dinner lastnight and didnt eat breakfast this morning. A couple days ago she was eating normal excpet she didnt finish her food, however she is acting normal in every other way.Could this be heat related too?

If she is acting totally normal, I guess it could be. I think one more missed meal and it would be off to the vet, just to be sure. Or you can call the vet and ask. They always give free advice on the phone. :)
