=P~ hi everybody...i just wanted to show everyone the no kill shelter i volunteer at on tuesday evenings...and if you get to the website, click on the link for cat adoption and kitties for adoption, and you will see the kitties i take care of.... :kiss_heart: :m10:

some are in foster care...but most are at the shelter. it is very clean, many many volunteers...so the kitties get lots of love and exercise...

michael, stevie, little man tate, caroline, and all the new ones that came in last week from the pound that are under a year old..but i cant remember their names yet!!!

Thanks for sharing! All the cats are so cute there. It's wonderful that you volunteer. I've been thinking about doing it but haven't figured out when!

(As a sidenote, I saw a Bengal mix on the listing - he's cute. He looks a little like the new kitten I got. I should make a cross country trip and sweep him up. But, that's just a dream. I promised my husband no more cats until we lose one (in 15 years!))

Promises are meant to be broken. Your kitten Ducati needs another kitten to keep the resident cats happy. :p

timothy looks like he might have some bengal...he also has very strong coloring...almost like a silvery tabby....that really dark contrast....

carolines baby's look just like her. caroline is a tiny kitty, one year old. she probably only weighs five pounds...just adorable. her personality is totally sweet. she has a face the shape of max's. too cute.

baby, darla, and simon are all carolines kittens. they are in foster care. caroline is at the shelter and loves the two kitties she shares a room with. the shelter is really like a house where each kitty gets lots of room to roam...

Carolyn, Baby, and Simon look related. Darla, on the other hand, looks like Ashlyn. They are just too cute! Must be so much fun being with them! Max does have Carolyn's whisker pads. Very cute! Who does Carolyn room with?

caroline rooms with naomi and kendra. they are all mommies...

maybe darla is kendras...well i get them all confused sometimes...but suffice it to say...99% of the kitties at the shelter are lovers...they love attention, are cuddly...and social. just a small percentage are "troubled" but they still get alot of attention and love even if they nip at you. usually those kitties are isolated in a nice room so that they dont get into cat fights...and in every room there is a night light and a radio so they can have jazz playing 24/7!!

and...they all get dry and a couple tablespoons of wet every am and pm...plus kittie treats....

TOYS EVERYWHERE...MORE TOYS THAN MY CATS WILL EVER SEE!!!

the place is filled with toys and cat trees...scratchers...kitty blankies, beds, etc.

I have a local shelter her that has a plan to have cat colonies by 2005 (I think) - they want to get rid of all the cages. Right now they have thought bubbles on paper hanging around all the cages 'advertising it' - they say things like the cat is dreaming about how wonderful it will be to be in a cage-free environment.

I can't wait to see the facilities!

It's such a great idea to do that. Cats don't need to be caged up, even if they're in a shelter. I think it would be so much less stressful to be in an open environment.

It must be great to volunteer in a place like that.

That's great news Lucidity! Hubby wants to open a no-kill shelter when he retires. Can't wait! I just don't understand why he won't take in Ginger. :( :m36:

why dont we take a poll...and tell him that if you get like a hundred yes votes for ginger to be inside then...he lets her inside...

majority rules, right??? or is his vote weighted differently...like his vote equals one hundred and one votes....hee hee

byw...that shelter sounds like ours...they are sooo great. kitties can stay there forever, or find a nice family. either way...they are happy. (i mean...of course they are happier in a family...but you know what i mean...)

I love shelters like these. The cats are totally happy. We got Monty from a no-kill shelter in CT called Forgotten Felines. When we went there for for the first day, most resident cats ignored us. I drove back the second day for Monty and each cat there lined up to greet me and be petted in turn. It was surreal! :kiss_heart: :m10:

I looked at the the kitty pictures and they are all so cute. I wish I could save them all. It is sad to see so many kitties without homes. I clicked on the Calico kitty on the bottom right and she looks sad. It must make you feel really good to be able to help them.

We have a no-kill pet shelter here in Richmond...and it has kitty colonies (it also has cages too for some of the kitties). Sounds like your rescue place is really nice Lynnhaz.

I took a look at some of the kitties...I thought Tiger Lilly looked like a nice kitty and sounded like a nice one too. It's a shame she was given back to the rescue org, because her adopters got a divorce.

I don't think I could work with rescue kitties, I'd want to take them ALL home with me!

she is loving and friendly to people, though...

thank you for looking at the site everybody....

i love the kitties...and feel they are a part of my life...therefore, i want to share them with you guys...because they are real...not just pictures....

update....thought i would share part of the memo that came out from the owner of the shelter, julie....

i would like to direct your attention to this....the last few words of the sentence... gonna be hard.... gonna be hard...

    and this...makes me sooo mad...

"Jacqualin and I spent part of Sunday at the East Side pound evaluating cats and choosing which were to come into the RESCUE system. As we looked into cage after cage and met scared eyes staring back at us at every turn, we were struck again and again with how precarious life is for a cat in Maricopa County. Two of our cats – Maxine and Daphne – were turned into the pound because their owners were moving. Their owners simply brought each in saying they were moving and couldn’t – or didn’t want to - take the cat with them. Maxine and Daphne, turned in by different owners, are each in the neighborhood of five years old. Did these owners realize the risk – in fact the high likelihood - of them being put to death? Did they somehow convince themselves their cat would assuredly get adopted? If so, did they not care who would adopt them? Did they not wonder – worry – if their new owner would love them and take care of their needs? These were some of the questions that haunted me and Jacqualin on Sunday. "

"Patrick is purebred Bengal. He may even be older than nine. He was turned into the pound when his owners had an elderly parent allergic to cats move into the home. Perhaps there was no way he could have stayed in this home without jeopardizing this parent’s health. At the same time, wouldn’t you think his owners would take responsibility to find him a loving home instead of relinquishing him to an anonymous entity who at best would adopt him to anyone willing to write a check and at worst – as did happen – would march him right into the euthanasia room?"

"It strikes me sometimes that as a society we’re playing musical chairs with these animals’ lives. Just as in the child’s game, when the music stops, someone is left standing. In the child’s game, the worst that happens is someone is left without a chair. With the animals, as they’re bounced between owners and shelters, too many are left without homes. All too often it costs them their lives."

"These are sobering thoughts. But then I spent time this morning looking at the faces of each of our new arrivals. Each has so much to give. None was ready to have life ended. None will now meet that fate. Once again, I’m filled with overwhelming gratitude to share my life with you – with each of you who care so much, give so much and join along this path of a culture change for our cats and dogs."

"Thank you for being a part of this life-saving journey."

    "Julie"

it is so sad...bittersweet...because the kitties will have a forever life at the shelter, but why do people do this??? make me so angry... :( :m3:

That is so well written, and so true.
I wish there was a shelter around here, i'd be the first to volunteer! But perhaps i should be happy we don't need one here...
