Keeping Cats Cool, Dude!

Hey guys and gals,

I was hoping you could help me, i was wondering, is there a way to keep my cat/s cool in Summer, it's quite hot here atm, but it's only going to get hotter and my poor long haired boy 'Midget' is getting very hot.

When we first let him brave the outside we noticed he would open his mouth alot and walk or sit with his mouth open, when we went to the vet for a vac, he did it at the vet and she said that he was stressed, we asked if it could also mean he is hot and she didn't really answer us.

I know he gets stressed, but i believe he is HOT, he ussually hangs around inside while we are home going out accosianly and for short times, then when he come trotting back in his mouth is open, and he lays down and almost (well i suppose he does) pants.

So i was wondering what i can do to help him cool down during those times that he's 'panting'?

Just make sure he has full access to cool fresh water. Keep him hydrated. You can check for dehydration by pulling up the skin between his shoulders. If it snaps back quickly, he's fine. If it takes it's time settling back down, then he's definitely dehydrated.

About the water thing, my partner hates it cause i poor him cold water from the filter in the fridge! lol

 

if your cat doesnt mind water that much, you could wipe his coat with a wet cloth. i do that to Max sometimes and it seems to help.

he doesn't mind water too much, i've kinda rubbed it on him before but not with a cloth.
