You can try placing cardboard with double sided sticky tape on it over the counter and tables. Most cats don't like the feeling of the stickiness on their paws.

there's also something like this to try http://www.thekittystore.com/thekittystore/pm-21019.html

I have never allowed my cat up on counters or tables, but i began that training when she was a kitten. If your cat has been allowed up there in the past, it might be more difficult to discourage it now, so good luck!

    Hi,

I found it a matter of patience. I continually was picking my cats up and putting them down from the work surface .. again and again and again. I had one cat who seemed to be determined to keep getting up there, but I just didn't say anything, just grabbed him, put him to the floor. Eventually he got it. It did take a while though.

Just be patient is my advice!

    Good luck!

i did try to keep them down as kittens..but eventually gave up..lol...but now i am trying so hard..i have been clapping..which is fine for romeo and jazz..but caesar is deaf..so it doesnt bother him..i may have to try the sticky tape..it works for my couches...they dont scratch them anymore..bc they hate the tape

I've mentioned it several times before in other posts, but the way i trained Vianne to stay off of counters and tables was by never allowing her on any hard surfaces. She IS allowed to jump on the bed, couch or cushioned chairs only. I did this by teaching her "Get Down!" when she would jump up where she wasnt allowed i would say "get down!" and then if she didnt i would keep saying it and walk up to her, scruff her and hiss in her face, then i'd set her on the floor and pet her. It didnt take long before she figured out that if i started walking towards her after i told her to get down that she was gonna be in trouble. Eventually she just quit trying to get up on the counters and even now, she will sit at the kitchen table in a chair and peek her head over the top to see what i'm doing. Sometimes she will sit up a bit and i say "Vianne, no feet on the table" and she sits right back down, its so cute

Obviously, this method prob wouldnt work too well with your deaf cat, but maybe with the others or hopefully the sticky tape or combination with the Ssscat! will do the trick. Either way, best of luck :y_the_best:

I bought a clear plastic floor runner and cut it to fit the counter andtables, and put it upside down with the bumpy things on the bottom pointing up as the kitties don't like that and it works like a charm.
