Ok, I was wondering if anyone's heard of removing the top pad? You know the one I mean, it's high on the front legs, behind the knuckle.

I'm only asking cause as a joke I said I was going to get Floobs removed. He tears them ALL the time. The last one is pretty bad. It's been 2 weeks and it's still not healed. He's had it strapped up and some antibiotics but I don't want him to have antibiotics if I can help it. His life is boring too every time he has to heal. His walks have to be restricted and playing with his ball, frizbee, sticks, anything is out of the question as he just reopens the wound by sliding or landing.

So, i said this as a joke to someone I see walking her dogs, and she says she's had one of her girls pads removed cause she kept catching it at agillity. I didn't beleive it. The more I think about it tho, the more I'm tempted to ask the vet.

I just wondered if anyone else had come across this.

They use those pads for traction when they run.

    Hi Jamiya.
Yeah, I know. It was just a thought that they're not actually doing anyuthing for Floob besides cause him pain and misery. We're always up the feilds or in the woods so all they're doing is getting torn when he catches them. I don't think his traction's working too well.

If you can get it to heal, maybe you could get some sort of 'skid boot' to protect it while he's working, playing, whatever.

I know they make boots for sled dogs, to protect their feet. If someone doesn't make a skid boot for agility dogs, they should.

I would agree on all parts if you can heal it tryy him with the boots you probably find he hates them and rips them straight back off but worth a try lol.

If its not going to heal i would ask my vet about what can be done next especially since he has alot of energy and likes to be kept busy running jumping things like that.

The more he rips and cuts the pad the more chances of a more severe micro virus getting in.

The vets your best bet on the situation.

    Hi guys.
Thanks for your replies. I was expecting a few 'Oh my god, that's absurd' type of answers but I spose it's not as weird as I thought it was

I'm at the vet tomorrow night for a 2 week check up on this wound, so I'll ask him then. At least he knows how bad Floobs cuts are so he'll be the best judge.

As for the boot idea... He did have one on this time, to protect the bandages from getting wet. It lasted almost 30 minutes before it'd slid off, and that was with the vet strapping it on. I think he's just heavy footed or something!

Have I mentioned lately how beautiful Floob is? I love the half-and-half face he has. :)

lol, you know Jamiya, I must say to him a hundred times a day how beautiful he is. I know we all think our babies are the best, so it doesn't count, but still.

Just to say, I've been to the vets. I asked about having them removed. He says it's a case of when they're removed it's just bare flesh so there's a chance he'll still rip into that. He'd rather not remove them, and see how he goes. He put him on another 5 days antibiotics though, as it isn't healed enough (after 15 days!) and gave him a shot.

I guess it's just a case of putting up with it and *hoping* he has more cut free weeks than not.
