Kitten Constipation Problems

Hi! I recently rescued a kitten that was abandoned by his mother. He
is approximately 4 weeks old. When I first found him, he was pooping
on his own. Last Friday I took him to the vet and the vet de-wormed
him and gave me antibiotic cream to put on his butt cause his butt
was sore. The last time he pooped was the next day, Saturday. On
Tuesday (8/24) I took him to the vet cause I was worried cause he had
not gone yet and the vet gave him an enema and told me to come back
if he still was not going on his own. Its Friday and he has not gone
yet! I have been rubbing him after every feeding to stimulate him to
go. He has gotten really good at peeing! He even pees in the litter
box already. But no matter what I do I cannot get him to poop.
Please help! I'm really worried about the little guy!!!

    Thanks-Ashley

Hi and welcome to Auspet. :D Please do as your vet advised and take him back to the vet today, being as he still has not passed a stool. This is not something that you can just wait on. I hope your kitty will get better soon. Keep us posted.

He has an appointment for later today. I am just concerned that he may become enema dependent if he has them too often. It is an expensive way to get a kitten to poop!!

He's just a little guy. I'm sure with good vet care this problem will resolve itself soon. Ask your vet why your kitty is having this problem and if it can be treated. Also ask your vet if they could show you how to give the enema at home, until this problem is resolved. I'm glad he's going to the vet today. Let us know what the vet said.

 i can't believe the vet did not suggest u try to stimulate him yourself since he's still so young.

have u tried using a warm dampish SOFT cloth and wiping his anus with it? momma cats help stimulate their babies to use the bathroom this way... maybe that might help him...

    good luck tho! :)

That is def the way to do it. You have to act as his mom and wipe his butt with a warm paper towel. Be careful not to do it too hard or long or it can get irritated. I had the constipated prob with the kitty I raised from 2 days old- give him mineral oil in a dropper. It shoudl work within 24 hours. Give it to him every other meal until he goes. In my case I had to repeat it 4 or 5 times cuz he continued to get constipated but now he's fine.

    Kitten Much Better!

Since going to the vet on Friday, the kitten has pooped with my help twice and pooped by himself this morning. I put a little vegatable oil in his food on Saturday per the vet and I think that helped him to start going himself again. Thanks for all the advice and hopefully the constipation is over!!!
