I know we talked to death about cat litter. Has anyone ever heard of Litter Pearl or uses it? It's supposed to be odor free and no dust and 100% safe even if ingested and FDA approved. I went to Steve's pet store today and they were pushing for the sale. :0011: I was thinking about purchasing it for kitties but am worried about the ingestion portion but they said it's safe to eat.

I really like it alot and find it way easier to clean than clumping or that pellet stuff (I forget what its name is) it does really keep the smell down better I think. I have never used one of those litter boxes that scoop themselves, but (I think) if you used the 2 together, you would have a very hassle free life. I really do like this stuff alot!
But the big downsides of it, I always have little balls (sometimes soaked in pee) rolling around, I have tried different types of pads and such to stop them and they help, but the balls still roll.
I haven'T had this problem, but I have "heard" of it (never actually anyone hd it, but someone said that someone said...) it can scratch the pads of the kitties feet.
And if I remeber correctly, because right now I don't actually use that brand but something similar (some German brand) my husband said, that it is pretty much just salt or salt based compund (I think) good luck

:qm1: Mrs. Lil, congrats on your nuptials and welcome back! I'll buy some today and see how it works. Why can't they make them flat so the pearls don't roll?

I used it years ago when I only had two cats. I does absorb incredibly well and definitely keeps the smell down. I remember it being a bit pricy though but it is supposed to last longer too.

lol...like Lil said about the little balls rolling......THAT brought back memories....I used to find them everywhere  They do make "chunk" style, and I tried that too, but still found this litter to track more.

Thanks Wtpooh. Tracking will make clean up a real pain. The stuff is supposed to be biodegradable and safe for our kitties. I wonder if that's true. How does the chunk style track more than the pearls? :0011:

ooops...what I meant was that the litter (chunk and pearl) tracked a lot. I think they get stuck inbetween the cats toes because they are bigger than the average litter stuff....

Oh, thanks Wtpooh. They should've made them smaller. As long as the tracking isn't "dusty" it might not be so bad but I still wouldn't want my kitties licking the pearls. I think I'll just buy a little bit to try it out. It is very expensive. Hmmm.

i would be curious to see how it worked. i wonder if one of those rugs under the box especially for tracking would help....

its a great idea...but ive also heard about the tracking issue :(

I tried almost every surface I could think of around the litter box to help with the tracking with that type litter and the best I found was an old bath mat Not the one that goes inside, but the litter shaggy carpet like one) but then it begins to smell so you need to wash it frequently (or deal with the smell) but I still would rather have that than the hassle of the other types of litter. I have 2 different bath mats and I let one hang outside for a few days then switch with the other.
On the expensive thing, Dale prefers it when I don't use so much in her box, so one bag lasts me a long time (it says one bag = one month, for onecat) and I don't know about where youlive, but where I lived in the Kroger (grocery store) the had off brands of the same stuff with the same ingredients for less. The pearl stuff was about $15-20 at the different pet stores, then the pearl stuff was on sale $8, but normally $13 and the off brand was about $5. So maybe if you check around you can find it cheaper?? Good luck
