Little update on Toonces

A little back history in case you missed my previous posts: We lost Scout, or 6 month old kitten, to FeLV (didn't know she had it until she was sick). We got our other 3 tested and found out 1 was positive, and the other 2 are negative. The positive kitty (Ten) is perfectly healthy otherwise and the 2 negative kitties (Emily & Romeo) are all fully vaccinated.

We wanted another cat but we didn't want to put another negative cat at risk so we were specifically looking for a poistive cat that showed absolutely no signs of being sick (don't want to introduce anything to Ten). We ended up finding a 1 1/2 year old brown spotted tabby named Toonces. Almost a year ago, a rescue group in Kansas City saved her from a shelter. At the time she was pregnant and she ended up giving birth to 3 FeLV negative kittens. She has been in foster care ever since.

We've had her for about 2 weeks and had an appointment to get her vaccinated & microchipped today. We still haven't received her records from the rescue group yet, but we did get an email saying that she was tested for FeLV once last February (tested positive) and they think she was tested again a month later, but they weren't 100% sure.

So today we decided to have her re-tested just to double check. She tested negative!

That basically means one of 2 things. Either the 1st test was a false positive and she never had it to begin with or she did have it, but was able to fight it off. We'll know a little more if we can find out more info on that possible 2nd test. If she did have the test and it was positive, then we know for sure that she did have it but fought it off. If she never had the second test, then we won't know if the first test was accurate or not.

Anyway, still really good news for Toonces. We got her vaccinated against FeLV just to be safe, so now she's all caught up on her vaccines and is microchipped (poor thing got poked about 5 times).

That's great news. Do you have any pics of her? I'm sure she's very pretty. All of your cats are. How is she getting along with the others?

There's a bunch of pics of her here:

We just started really letting her socialize with the other cats today and it's not great, but not horrible. Some hisses & growls, but mostly curious looks. Everyone will eventually settle down, though; it'll just take some time.
