Lots of ticks... Yuck!

I applied Frontline Plus to all my dogs on the 5th of this month.I went hiking yesterday with them and Syd(my shorthair dog) is COVERED in ticks. My roomate picked off 3 on the ride home and I found 2 after we got home. I didnt have any dog shampoo so I hosed her off really well, I hope she doesnt have anymore. The bad thing is my other dogs have long thick hair so I cant even tell if they have ticks on them. Im so freaked out, I keep thinking there are ticks crawling on me.

I guess the Frontline Plus didnt work, is Advantage better?

What do you guys use for flea and tick prevention? Ive never had a problem like this before.

What do I do to make sure my other dogs dont have any since i cant tell cause of their fur? I rinsed them off really well too. Should I give them all baths with dog shampoo, would that help?

The thought of ticks is driving me nuts!

Also wanted to add that I have cats, I think Advantix cant be used with cats, im not sure though.

 

ticks have been extremely prevelant here also. I use Frontline Plus on Molly and even though I miss a tick here and there (and usually wake up with them on me in places that FREAK ME OUT) I find them dead on Molly's bed.
We remove the live ones we see and then hope Frontline takes care of the ones we don't see.

We took her for a walk on our road one nice Sunday morning and we went into the grass on the side of the road. We picked about 15 ticks off her leg. Got home and I raked out her fur and got more.

 

Run your hands through your dog's fur and feel for lumps. Do it every day. Any ticks you miss will be easier to find as they swell up (yuck).

I believe Frontline doesn't prevent the ticks from biting, but it will kill them once they are attached. So even though she had ticks on her, they should die and drop off (yuck again).

You might want to add some garlic to her diet during the summer months. Don't overdo it (too much is dangerous), but a clove a day should be fine. Or garlic tablets - you can get kyolic garlic if you don't want to deal with the garlic smell.

 

i use revolution on my dogs, but i don't know how well it works on ticks and all, since we haven't gone anywhere for them to get any yet. It will probably get tested sometime this week though, as we intend to go to the lake, and there are lot's of fields and such that the dogs love running through.

 

I don't use any type of topical or injestable flea/tick prevention. Precious is VERY allergic to Advantage and Frontline. She got so sick after just a few hrs after aplication, I thought I was going to loose her.

Both my girls have acres to run on, and we do so daily. Ticks have always been severe down here, along with fleas.

What I do is every two weeks the girls get a bath in Adams Flea/tick shampoo, I rince them off thne apply a good generous amount and lather, makig sure I really scrub down to the skin. (this is their FAVOIRTE part!!!) then For Kabuki i leave it on the reccommended 5 minutes and Precious I leave it on for ony 2-3 minutes so she doesn't have a reaction.

Then rince very well. I repeat with a moisturizing oatmeal and teatree shampoo and then finish up with Mane and Tail conditioner.

I have goat stands that Iuse. They are built out of square tubing and expanded metal, they stand about 2' off the ground and have a pole on the front to attach their leashes too. It works just like a groomers table, only I can give their baths to them while their on them and they won't get all muddy.



Every day, their fed their Ckn soup for the dog lovers soul, mixed with ProPlan. they get their NuVet vitamin and a dash of garlic. Then I throw in a raw egg one day or a carrott or denta bone. I alternate to keep them pasified.

So far i havent' had any fleas or ticks.
