Ok so I noticed a pee smell in the air about 2 weeks ago. i sniffed around until I found where it was coming from. He had peed on the side of the couch! We have couch covers, so I cleaned the couch and the cover with Natures Miracle. Today i noticed the smell again! And now he has peed above where he peed before! Before he peed 12" above the ground and now it is 15" above, you can see the line! If I clean it again with the NAtures miracle, will he pee higher? Why is he doing this? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You know the drill - any changes in behavior or routine? Any new thing happening in your life (or his)? Have you taken a sample to the vet to rule out a medical problem?

Other than that - watch him! Do clean the couch, but don't let him in that room without you to supervise. Go back to watching him all the time, letting him out very often, and go out with him and treat him for peeing outside. Use a black light to make sure you got all the pee off the couch.

    Silly Luther!!

the only thing that has changed is that I stopped letting him and Dale (the cat) in this one room, because it was smelling too much like cat pee, so I moved the litter box and other pet items (toys, crates and stuff) to the porch. HE doesn't seem sick or anything, but I guess a check up can't hurt.
About the black light thing, (first a little background)Dale's litter box was in the spare bedroom. but it smelled as if she wasn't always using it and occasionally we would find yellow spots. About a month ago, I really started cracking down on both Luther and Dale and keeping them only in one area when I couldn't watch (generally in that room). The room started to stink really bad and i was cleaning the yellow spots with everything from Nature's Miracle to vinegar, anything i read I tried. so in this process of trying to get the stink out I moved their things to the back porch and put a doggie door there so they can go in and out as they please or I can lock them out there. The room continued to stink even though all access to the room wa's denied, so I thught maybe i didn't clean it good enough. I got a black light to try to find more stains that I may have missed, and I really cannot see a difference in where I know it has been peed on and it hasn't(from stains in the carpet padding). The carpet is a light blue 70's carpet, what is the deal? why can't I see the pee? Or did I clean it out of the carpet, but it still isn't good enough out of the pad?

I think you're right that you maybe didn't get the pee out of the pad. And I think this same thing goes on at my house but with FOUR animals lol. Someone will have an issue and an accident and then it's like the rest of them think that's the new pee area! And I've tried everything to clean it too. I was shocked at what my hallway carpet looked like on the back side when I pulled it up--and it was only about 4 years old.

BTW, where did you get the black light??

my husband keeps asking why do we have pets? He really wants kids right now and I keep saying if you can't handle the pee from Dale and Luther, how can you handle the diapers, spit up/puke baby mess?

Pet stores sell black lights, usually in the potty aisle. :)

Thanks Jamiya. I'll have to look at a pet store. I checked at Wal-Mart. I really want some of that Urine-Gone that comes with a black light but Brie's kidney stone problem has me strapped. If it ain't one thing, it's another! :?
